This National Guard position is for a FUEL DISTRIBUTION SYSTEMS MECHANIC, Position Description Number D0212000 and is part of the IN 122nd Fighter Wing, National Guard.

Performs all phases of maintenance on the fuel vapor recovery system.

Conducts inspections to detect explosive, fire and toxic hazards.

Performs preventative maintenance, troubleshoots, repairs and modifies installed systems.

Checks, repairs and replaces electrically operated gas pressure switches, safety shutoff, pressure controls, differential pressure control switches, solenoid switches, fuses, blower motors, booster systems, fluid power gas valves, etc.

Maintains liquid fuel storage, distribution, and dispensing systems.

Performs preventative maintenance on fuel systems which are used for storage, distribution, and dispensing of conventional fuels such as gasoline and JP-4.

Installs and repairs component parts of the system. Checks equipment for serviceability prior to installation.

Accomplishes periodic inspections on systems as required by applicable technical orders.

Performs alterations to liquid fuel facilities to eliminate defects in design and/or construction.

This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.

Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.

Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.

Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.

May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.

Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.

Open to current members of the Indiana Air National Guard ONLY.

Specialized Experience Requirements for NGB Federal Wage System Positions for claiming civilian job experience: Creditable experience must have been performed at least 30 consecutive days and be properly documented.

Experience in the same line of work can only be credited on the basis of a regular 40-hour workweek. Hours per week MUST be documented on resume to receive any credit.


Military Grades: E-4 thru E-7

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training demonstrating knowledge of hydraulics, fluids, gases and mechanics as applied to fuel systems and components repair techniques. Experience using tools and equipment associated with the trade and reading and interpreting directions.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: 18 months experience or training operating, maintaining, repairing, troubleshooting and overhauling fuel systems and components. Experience or training initiating and controlling the movement and storage of fuel supplies by operating high pressure systems with a series of terminals connected by cross-country pipelines or multi-fuel storage and distribution facilities connected by a network of internal pipelines.

After appointment, reassignment, change to lower grade or promotion through an Indiana job vacancy announcement, an employee must wait at least 18 months before applying for another technician position.
