Summary

This position is located in the Production Division, Plant and Engineering Section, Facility Engineering and Maintenance Branch at the United States Mint, San Francisco, California. Under the supervision of a Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor, the incumbent installs, maintains, and repairs building structures, fixtures, equipment, plant heating, steam, hot and cold water, gas distribution, compressed air, ventilation, and drainage systems employing such trade skills as plumbing, painting, carpentry, masonry, pipefitting, boiler operations, sheet metal working, welding, and other related trades.

Responsibilities

As a Maintenance Mechanic, you will:

- Install, modify, or repair high-pressure piping systems and equipment such as steam heating, steam generators, hot water and hydraulic systems, radiators, and vacuum pumps, condensate pumps, and circulating pumps.

- Fabricate, install and maintain sheet metal equipment and fixtures such as machine guards, shelves, coin stands, ventilators, chutes, bulkheads, ducts, metal roofing, flashing, and hoppers.

- Perform oxyacetylene, gas carbon-arc. Tig arc, and heliarc welding, brazing, soft and silver soldering, flame and arc burning and cutting to fabricate, maintain and repair a variety of items such as piping, tubing, machine parts, and structures.

- Install and repair sinks, basins, toilets, urinals, faucets, drinking fountains, sprinkling systems, shower and their component parts.

Physical Requirements:

Makes installations and repairs from ladders, scaffolding and platforms, and in hard-to-reach places requiring reaching, stooping, crawling and climbing. Frequently lifts and carries tools, equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds; occasionally lifts and carries items weighing over 50 pounds.
