State Highway Administration's District 4 (Baltimore County)
is recruiting for a Traffic Engineering (Transportation Engineer IV)
position. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum and selective qualifications*
listed below. This is a position specific
recruitment. All eligible candidates must meet the minimum and selective qualifications
by the closing date. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy, and may be used to fill future vacancies in this classification in District 4 (Baltimore County).
This position assists the Assistant District Engineer - Traffic and the Team Leaders with the preparation and review of various types of traffic engineering studies and the recommendation of engineering solutions to a wide range of complex or sensitive issues in an urban setting. The incumbent represents the State Highway Administration's District Traffic Office at various meetings, as well as, operating as a liaison between the ADE-T, the Office of Traffic and Safety, Highway Design, Bridge Design, Project Planning, Materials and Research, Access Permits Division, elected officials, other district offices and the general public. This position manages and reviews the work of engineering consultants, as well as, reviewing the Temporary Work Zone Traffic Control of contractors working on state roads. The incumbent also administrates the congested intersection program for the District including selecting and reviewing candidate locations, preparing recommended improvements and presenting them to the Administrator for funding. The incumbent also administrates the Logo program for District 4.
: Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.
: Four (4) years experience in professional engineering.
Two (2) years of experience in professional traffic or highway engineering.
*A selective qualification recruitment is conducted for positions when there is a specific or additional bona fide occupational qualification (i.e., knowledge, skill, or ability).

1. Additional work experience in professional engineering, or in technical engineering at the journey level or above, may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education.
2. Possession of a Master's Degree in engineering may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
3. Persons currently registered as Professional Engineers in the State of Maryland, or in a State with comparable requirements, are considered to have met the education requirements.
Licenses & Certifications
Possession of a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the state of Maryland.
