The selectee for this position will serve as a Rigger for the Voyage Repair Team (VRT), Fleet Readiness Center Mid-Atlantic (FRCMA), in Norfolk, VA. He/she will plan, lay out, assemble, repair, load test, certify and install complex Weight Handling Equipment (WHE) and various standing and running rigging in support of the disassembly, repair, overhaul and reassembly of Aircraft Launch and Recovery Equipment (ALRE). The Rigger will also perform and/or assist in jobs normally assigned to other trades in the FRCMA VRT such as: Electrician, ALAD Mechanic, Pipefitter, Welder, Shipfitter and Machinist.

The successful selectee will perform the following duties:
Coordinate crane operations during the process of lifting and moving equipment.
Prepare and coordinate loading and unloading of equipment and supplies, including ALRE equipment, aboard ships.
Inspect, load test, maintain and certify rigging and portable lifting equipment.
Perform and/or assist in jobs normally assigned to other trades in the FRCMA VRT such as: Electrician, ALAD Mechanic, Pipefitter, Welder, Shipfitter and Machinist.

Call back, shift work and emergency overtime are regular requirements of this position.
This is a Designated Emergency Essential (E-E) position and E-E employees are required to sign a DD2365 form, stating that he/she will continue to support the mission requirements until relieved by proper authorities in a crisis situation or mobilization. An E-E employee with military recall status will be screened.
Travel may be required. The employee is always On-call for emergency duty at any time and in any geographical location throughout the world including combat zones. You will be required to travel by any mode of transportation available when necessary for the expeditious performance of the duties of the position. This includes travel by commercial and/or government aircraft or ship of any type, rescheduled or non-scheduled flights, some of which may involve landing on or launching from aircraft carriers and air capable ships at sea. Periodic travel may be required and/or temporary assignments to other locations, overseas, or to deployed ships and stations, or foreign countries may be required.
In order to meet the demands of the Voyage Repair Team (VRT), you will be required to operate Material Handling Equipment (e.g., forklift), and Ground Support Equipment (e.g., tow tractor), as needed. You must meet all requirements to operate this equipment.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: I have the ability to perform the common and repetitive tasks of a Rigger: use established rigging practices; lay out, assemble, repair and install weight handling gear; maneuver heavy loads for movement by crane or other mobile material handling equipment; signal crane operators; use a combination of equipment such as chain falls, dollies, pulley blocks to move objects through open areas; use shop sketches, job orders, diagrams, and blueprints; maintain and repair chain-falls, hoists and maintain records for associated Weight Handling Equipment, including Catapult Launching Engine Cylinder gantries. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
