Job Description
Provide assistance in the field to support Materials Section. Position will perform some combination of asphalt/aggregate plant sampling for materials to be delivered to
construction maintenance, and D/B projects; assist driller in obtaining subsurface soil & rock information for use in pavement design and design of bridge foundations, retaining & sound barrier walls. Retrieve concrete test specimens and deliver samples/equipment to/from projects.
This is a wage/hourly position, no state benefits are provided.

Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of highway construction and maintenance materials. Basic knowledge of asphalt/aggregate plant sampling and test procedures. Basic knowledge of hydraulic cement concrete placement procedures. Ability to accurately identify soil and rock. Experience recording and analyzing field data, interpreting test results and writing reports. Strong math skills (algebra/geometry/trigonometry) which demonstrate mathematical calculations. Ability to read, interpret & apply written plans, specs, docs and instructions. Skill in using field & test equip; computer & software applications skills (Windows, MS Office, E-M, Internet). Good communication skills (oral and written). Ability to perform field work and heavy physical labor in varying weather conditions. Valid Driver's license and safety shoes.
Preferred Qualifications
High school graduate or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Preferred certifications at time of employment include: Asphalt Concrete Field (Level I and II), Asphalt Concrete Plant (Level I), Hydraulic Cement Concrete Field, Nuclear Safety and all proficiency tests necessary to obtain the aforementioned certifications.
Special Requirements
Valid Driver’s license is required. Safety shoes are required. Must have or obtain required certifications within 12 months of hire, include Asphalt Concrete Field (Level I and II), Asphalt Concrete Plant (Level I), Hydraulic Cement Concrete Field, Nuclear Safety and all proficiency tests necessary to obtain the aforementioned certifications. May be required to operate or work in the vicinity of devices containing radioactive materials and emitting low levels of ionizing radiation. Position requires unrestricted mobility, including, at times, unrestricted mobility in irregular terrain; the ability to stand for long periods of time; the ability to work in a variety of environments affected by, but not limited to, such elements as dust, vapors, heat, and moisture; various traffic conditions; and the ability to lift 50 lbs. May be required to work nights and weekends. All employees are required to work in emergency situations, to include weekends, holidays, and outside normal work hours; assignments may vary based on business needs.

: This position is an hourly/wage position. Wage employees may not work more than 29 hours per work week on average over the course of a year and are limited to 1,500 hours within a 12 month period. No State benefits are provided.
