WHAT DOES A LEAD TAX EXAMINING TECHNICIAN DO?
As a Lead Tax Examining Technician, you will need to provide coaching and guidance for a team of tax examiners. Carry out a full range of administrative and technical assistance. This work involves a diversity of issues related to a wide range of tax processing regulatory requirements and procedures administered by the Internal Revenue Service. You will provide training, quality review and be an instructor or on-the-job instructor.You will lead and/or participate in team discussions, provide a positive environment and use sound judgment in resolving work issues.
WHAT IS THE SMALL BUSINESS/SELF-EMPLOYED DIVISION:
the Small Business/Self-Employed (SB/SE) Division provides examinations and taxpayer education services for about 7 million small businesses and upwards of 33 millions self-employed and supplemental income taxpayers. SB/SE taxpayers generally have higher incomes than most taxpayers, need to file twice as many tax forms, and generally need to rely more on paid tax preparers and the taxpayer education outreach activities of the IRS.
Three (3) positions are located in Small Business/Self-Employed (SBSE), Collection Operation, Campus Collection, Kansas City Campus Collection, Ogden Center, 2365 Lincoln Avenue, Ogden, UT 84401 (UT1486).

Responsibilities
As a Lead Tax Examining Technician you will:
Distribute, balance, monitor and report on workload in accordance with established workflow or job specialization. Assures equitable distribution among employees and timely accomplishment of assigned
work load.
Amend or rejects work not meeting established standards and refer to supervisor any problems on
meeting performance standards.
Resolve simple informal complaints, refer others to supervisor; report on performance, progress and
training needs of employees and on disciplinary problems.
Maintain current knowledge of procedures, policies and directives; answer questions; and provide both
classroom and OJT instruction to employees.

Qualifications
GS-08 LEVEL:
You must have one (1) year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: experience working/adjusting individual and/or business accounts, applying tax laws, regulations, practices, tax forms, notices, bills, and other documents relative to this position. Your experience should be sufficient to identify the nature and scope of problems or issues; make appropriate adjustments to accounts, and advise the taxpayer of options available for meeting tax obligations. Experience with on-line systems, research materials, technology and tools to resolve taxpayer's inquiries/issues.
The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or VolunteerService. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part- time work is considered on a prorated basis.
