About the Position: The Yakima Training Center plays a major role as a part of the STRYKER Center of Excellence, introducing soldiers to this new equipment and supporting the preparation of experienced STRYKER units for deployment. The installation's customers include but are not limited to the Joint Base Lewis-McChord and Army National Guard units, Special Operations Command, Marine Corps, Air Force, Navy, and Coast Guard units plus local and federal law enforcement and allied forces from Canada and Japan.

Operate and maintain all units of a wastewater plant which provides for complete sewage treatment to include pretreatment, primary,

secondary treatment and separate sewage digestion.

Operate and maintain potable water systems to include five deep well turbine pumps with chlorinators systems and 600.000 gallon storage tank

with cathodic protection in the cantonment area.

Apply a variety of methods, procedures and technquies to repair, overhaul and maintain wastewater treatment plant, self contained vehicle

wash facility and potable water systems and equipment.

Troubleshoot, disassemble and repair potable water system to include gas and hypochlorinator injecto units, valves, meters water pumps for gas

chlorination and performs minor work on propane engines on wells.

Travel Required

Occasional travel - Temporary Duty (TDY) travel will be less than 5% of the time.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Industrial Equipment Mechanic (Waste Water Treatment Plant Operqator)~ without more than normal supervision. apply specific maintenance and repair procedures to install, maintain, and repair general industrial plant machinery and equipment such as degreasers, steam cleaners, hydraulic jacks, acid vats, firefighting equipment, and other nonproduction equipment of similar complexity. I have interpreted blueprints and detailed specifications in detecting malfunctions, determining corrective measures, and making repairs using test equipment and measuring devices such as feeler gauges, micrometers, and tachometers, and portable machines and hand tools such as flange facing machines, grinders, and drills. I have assisted higher grade industrial equipment mechanics on assignments involving machinery of greater complexity by disassembling and assembling the simpler components and assemblies, locating and repairing or replacing defective parts and components. I have a working understanding of wastewater treatment plant processes, equipment, sequences of operation, and functions to perform meet testing, licensing, and permit requirements. I have performed routine tests such as standard jar and ion concentration (pH) tests and recorded results in standardized reports. I have made adjustments to control valves and pumps in the wastewater treatment process. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORTS: Continuously walks up and down stairs and around the plant. Opens and closes heavy valves; lifts heavy equipment; works in strained and awkward positions; climbs planks to high levels and crawls on walkways and edges of tanks. Must be able to lift and carry items weighing 40 pounds or more.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Works both inside and outside often in adverse weather conditions. Is exposed to dirt, grease, dampness, infections and diseases and chlorine and other gas fumes. May be exposed to dangers of falling into open tanks and scum chambers and the possibility of cuts, bruises and broken bones. Uses safety equipment and clothing as required.
