Summary

This is an Air Reserve Technician enlisted (ART) position.

Air Reserve Technicians are part of the regular civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. In addition, ARTs are required to maintain active membership in an Air Force Reserve unit so long as they occupy Air Reserve Technician positions. As members of reserve units, ARTs receive on average one weekend of military training per month. In addition, they are eligible for 15 days active duty tour each year for which military leave is granted with full civilian pay. Air Reserve units and members are subject to immediate call to active duty in mobilization to meet a national emergency.

Responsibilities

This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position located in the aircraft operations function of an Air Force Reserve Squadron. The purpose of this position is to perform aircrew duties as an instructor aerial refueling technician and loadmaster on KC-135 tanker/cargo aircraft. Incumbent of this position will perform the following duties:

Develop instructional standards, training plans, tests, lesson plans, and other training materials.

Perform preflight and post-flight inspection on aircraft systems checks and coordinates with pilots and flight engineer to ensure aircraft airworthiness.

During rendezvous and aerial refueling, ensure strict adherence to procedures and close coordination with pilot to ensure mission success.

Perform loadmaster duties, accomplishing preflight checks, inspection of all aircraft loading equipment and systems. Performs periodic cargo inspections and ensure passenger safety and comfort during flight.

As required, perform flight examiner duties administering no-notice and annual evaluations to evaluate the performance of aircrew members.

ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Position may or will require incumbent to: (1) Fly in military and/or commercial aircraft in the performance of temporary duty (TDY) assignments. (2) Incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Incumbent's regular assignments are primarily ART duties: however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities. (3) Position may require a background security investigation to determine suitability for employment and/or a security clearance. (4) Incumbent is exposed to physiological hazards of flight plus physical and psychological demands of routine lengthy missions (up to 18 hours duration), must work in confined, hazardous noise areas, is subject to inclement weather during ground operations and dangerous environmental conditions during flight, and may operate in austere location. (5) Must be instructor qualified, maintaining proficiency in the Principles of Instruction. May be required to maintain flight examiner qualification. (6) Obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance. (7) Maintain proficiency in the use of firearms. As prescribed by regulation, may be required to carry and use a concealed weapon while performing aircrew related duties. (8) Perform duties of sky marshal. (9) This is a drug testing designated (TDP). Incumbent is subject to random drug testing. (10) Position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.

Qualifications

Must have been awarded or qualify for a CEA AFSC and hold a valid aviation service aeronautical order.

Must have currently qualified as Instructor in Mission Design Series (MDS).

Flying Hours Required: Minimum of 500 Total Military Flight Time

Total Military Flight Time is the cumulative sum of all rated/Career Enlisted Aviator position's flying time to include Primary Time, Secondary Time, Instructor Time, Evaluator Time, Student, Simulator and Other US Military and Foreign Military Time.

NOTE: Instructor Qualified is defined as completing an approved instructor syllabus course. Individuals are required to submit AF Form 8 Certificate of Aircrew Qualification or AF Form 942 Record of Evaluation from their Flight Evaluation Folder or equivalent sister service Record of Instructor Evaluation.

Mission Design Series (MDS) is defined as mission type: Fighter, Mobility, Bomber, Rescue, Special Operations, C2ISR and Trainer (i.e., Fighter MDS includes F-35, F-22, F-16, F-15C/E, A-10, F-18, AV-8, etc.,) Any MDS is qualified to fill Trainer MDS.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. Individuals on active duty may apply 120 days before separation date and should indicate in their application their military separation date. Individuals with more than 120 days before separation date must submit with their application a letter, signed by their commanding officer, stating the individual will be released from active duty (Palace Chase) if they obtain an ART position.
