The VAMC in Memphis, TN consists of one main campus located at 1030 Jefferson Avenue, which includes a 60-bed Spinal Cord Injury Unit, and nine community based outpatient clinics CBOC.

Responsibilities
This position is located in the Neurology Service at the Memphis VA Medical Center. The technician at this level functions as lead technician to oversee a team of polysomnography technicians in Neurology Service Sleep Health Center and to plan activities of the Center, providing optimal care, quality control and efficient work performance. The knowledge and skills of the incumbent is at the same or higher level as that of the team led. Major duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
Provides guidance and technical direction for accomplishing the work of the team;
Ensures the work assignments of the team are carried out;
Works with the supervisor in the assignment of functions of team members in order to meet routine or unusual deadlines and priorities;
Monitors the status and progress of work and makes day-to-day adjustments in accordance with established priorities.
Maintains a current knowledge and answers questions of other employees' procedures, policies and directives.
Trains or arranges for the training of team members in the accomplishment of tasks or projects.
Gives on-the-job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures and practices.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
Certification.
Registration by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) is highly desirable. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications are also desirable for employees at this level.
Preferred Experience
: Registration through the Board of Registered Polysomnography Technologists.
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications are also desirable for employees at this level.
Time-in-Grade Restriction
- Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. (If you have not held a GS grade at any time in the past 52 weeks, this question does not apply to you). For this vacancy, applicants must have held grade GS-08 or higher for at least a year to be eligible for the GS-09 grade level of this position. The grade must have been held in the Federal service but may have been in any occupation.
Grade Determinations:
Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities at the GS-09 level.
Knowledge of the more complex examination and treatment procedures and techniques in order to provide training and supervision in these procedures, to evaluate and initiate performance improvement projects, and to write policies, procedures, and protocols, that pertain to Polysomnography.
Knowledge of JCAHO and other regulatory requirements.
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with employees at varying grade levels.
Ability to manage and supervise employees.
Ability to provide, or provide for, staff development and training.

Physical Requirements:
Assists patients on and off the table and will be required to sit, stand, carry or lift in the performance of daily duties and responsibilities. Light lifting (under 15 lbs.); Light carrying (15-44 lbs.); reaching above shoulders; use of fingers; both hands required; both legs required; standing (4-6 hours); ability for simultaneously rapid mental and muscular coordination; both eyes required; ability to distinguish basic colors; ability to distinguish basic shades of color; hearing (aid permitted).
