SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC SUPERVISOR

Location: MATES, Yakima, WA

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Washington Army National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard at the required military grade listed if the position is open Nationwide.

Responsibilities

A SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC SUPERVISOR, WS-5801-14:

Provides direct input or participates in meetings and/or conferences with engineering, production control, and other personnel involving the initial analysis of long-range work requirements.

Assigns and explains work requirements and operating instructions to subordinate supervisors, sets deadlines, and establishes the sequence of work operations to be followed.

Develops and establishes internal procedures (e.g., meetings, content, and timing of reports) to be followed by subordinate supervisors to assure effective control and direction of work activities, organizations, and personnel supervised.

Develops, publishes, and ensures employee compliance with standing operating procedures for the activity supervised.

Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises.

Performs other duties as assigned.

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS:

Military Grades: E-1 to E-9, WO1 to CW5, or O-1 to O-3

Compatible Military Assignments:

ECMF: 12, 13, 14, 19, 25, 88, 91, 92, 94

WOBR: 25, 91, 92, 94, 882A

OBR: 88A, 90A, 91A, 92A

- Applicants need not be assigned to the position or possess the MOS to apply or be considered for selection. Selected applicant must be assigned to a compatible Military position and attain MOS within 1 year of appointment action.

- Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.

- All soldiers, civilian employees, and contractor employees who drive Army-owned or leased vehicles must complete the Army Avoidance Course (AAC) training when they start working for the Army. Must have a valid Washington state and military driver's license. Must be able to obtain a Government Travel Card (GTC) and be able to attend all schools deemed necessary by the supervisor.

- Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

- Must maintain membership in the WA National Guard for continued employment.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE:

Experience or training which demonstrates that the candidate has the ability to organize assignments for subordinates, estimate material and manpower needed for specific jobs; able to explain manuals and work procedures; and to prepare production records, work records and reports.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:

Must have at least 36 months experience or training diagnosing, repairing, overhauling, and modifying more complex vehicles, equipment, and more complicated systems. Experience which has provided a thorough knowledge of diagnostic equipment. Experience applying independent judgment in determining methods and techniques required to solve unusually complex maintenance and repair problems. Experienced in testing, inspecting, and evaluating the work performed on vehicles.

In addition to the journeyman level knowledge, experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, direct, and organize work assignments for lower grade personnel. Experience which required the review of work requirements and establish priorities to meet deadlines. Experience that provided knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function. Experience which demonstrates the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes. Experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations.
