The Department of Veterans Affairs, VA San Diego Healthcare System (VASDHS)
, is seeking a Chief of Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) and Disorders (SCI/D) Center Service Line,
who is Board Certified (BC) SCI and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) Physiatrist
. Physicians who are BC/BE in Physiatry, Neurology, Internal Medicine or Surgery (Orthopedics, Urology, etc.) with Subspecialty BC in SCI will be considered. The VASDHS SCI/D Center serves Veterans and active duty personnel with SCI/D in San Diego and Imperial Counties, Arizona, and Southern Nevada, and is the primary SCI/D consultation and specialty center for the Prescott, Tucson, and Phoenix VA Healthcare Facilities. VASDHS offers a wide range of inpatient and outpatient health services at the medical center in La Jolla and at the six community clinics located in Chula Vista, Escondido, Imperial Valley, Mission Valley, Oceanside, Sorrento Valley and Rio Clinic.
Expected Salary range
for well qualified Candidate select will range from $250,000.00 to $320,000.00 and includes industry leading robust menu of benefits and features package to support high quality professional practice and favorable work-life-family balance

****The Chief SCI major duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Provides direct leadership, programmatic management, and administrative oversight to the SCI/D Service and its staff
Works with SCI/D Physician Assistants managing SCI/D patients for acute rehabilitation, evaluations, acute medical/surgical care or respite care
Sees patients with SCI/D in the SCI Outpatient Clinic and provides medical primary care for eligible patients in the outpatient setting.
Promotes expansion and utilizes SCI/D telehealth services as appropriate for inpatient and outpatient care
Ensures visits from SCI/D Center (Hub) to SCI/D Spokes are conducted to maintain standards of practice through the continuum of patient care
Develops, implements, and maintains a program of research that addresses topics of importance to patients with SCI/D
Participates in patient and staff education and peer review
Reviews performance data, stakeholder information and new SCI/D - VA-wide strategic initiatives to formulate long-term goals and patient care
Serves as a key clinical resource for the VASDHS Director and Chief of Staff and is part of the clinical leadership team of the VASDHS.
Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Tour of duty may be discussed upon selection. Night, holiday, and weekend work may be required, serving as the primary physician on-call for 1 week every 4th week (as part of the shared call schedule with the three other SCI physicians) to cover the patients admitted to the SCI Service. On-call duty is localized on pager with daily rounds on the assigned weekends and holidays. Travel Required:

Conditional of Employment:
Must be a U.S. Citizen
Must be proficient in written and spoken English
Must have current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the United States
BE/BC in Physiatry, Neurology, Internal Medicine or Surgery (Orthopedic, Urology, etc.) required, with additional BC in SCI preferred
