The Albany VA Radiation Oncology department has a dedicated and fully staffed team of Physicians, Physicists, Dosimetrists, Radiation Therapists, and Nurses. We strive to give state of the art cancer treatment to our large veteran population using many different modalities. Our department uses Newly Installed Varian Truebeam Accelerator, Tomotherapy Hi-Art Treatment System, Eclipse and Tomotherapy treatment Planning system, Velocity, Aria, and Phillips Big Bore CT Simulator. We offer IMRT, IGRT, 3D conformal, 4D CT, SBRT/SRS treatments as well as Prostate Seed Brachytherapy. We work collaboratively with other hospital departments including Medical Oncology as well Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, and Surgery.
The Stratton VA Medical Center, part of the VA Health Care Upstate New York, is located in the heart of Albany. Albany, the capital city of New York, the seat of Albany County, and the central city of New York's Capital District, is roughly 140 miles north of New York City and sits on the west bank of the Hudson River. Opened in 1951, our Medical Center serves 22 counties of Upstate New York, Western Massachusetts and Vermont. In 1990 this facility was named in honor of Samuel S. Stratton, U.S. Congressman for 30 years of the 23rd District, a staunch supporter of veterans and a frequent visitor to our hospital. Patient Centered care is our approach to delivering healthcare to our Veterans. This philosophy gives patients and their families the chance to work closely with their healthcare providers to create more personalized care plans. Patient-centered care also considers the Veterans' personal preferences and values, family situations, cultural traditions, and lifestyles; it keeps them informed and engaged throughout their treatment. This position is located in the Radiation Oncology Service, Albany Stratton VA Medical Center (SVAMC), Albany, New York and supports the Network 2 Mission to care for our Veterans with compassion and excellence. This position is responsible for providing a broad range of Radiation Oncology services to Veterans receiving care at the VAMC. Duties and responsibilities are carried out throughout the Medical Center. The Physician follows established guidelines, ethics, and policies and protocols of the Radiation Oncology Service, Department of Medicine,
Department of VHA, and the profession. Each Radiation Oncology Specialist functions as a cooperative and collegial team member with the entire staff.
The Radiation Oncology Specialist is charged with delivering the best possible Radiation Oncology services to our Veteran patients. The Radiation Oncology Specialist will perform indicated services for conditions in both in-patient and out-patient clinical settings, including telemedicine. This care must be delivered in accordance with hospital policy and meet community standards and pertains to outpatients as well as inpatients. The Radiation Oncology Specialist works within her or his privileges at all times. The Radiation Oncology Specialist is expected to maintain current knowledge and skills. She or he must be able to deliver interventions throughout the full spectrum of Radiation Oncology; i.e. s/he is expected to maintain good diagnostic and therapeutic acumen.

Physical Requirements: The physician should be physically and mentally capable to perform the duties of the position including examinations, formulate the diagnosis and treatment plan and educate residents. Physical activities include sitting, standing (up to 4 hours) walking (up to 2 hours), heavy lifting (45 pounds or over), reaching above the shoulder, and repeated bending. The incumbent should be emotionally and mentally stable; and capable to perform the duties of the position.

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.
