Summary

It is anticipated that there will be significant interest in the announcement. OIG is organized into three line elements: the Offices of Investigations, Audits and Evaluations, and Healthcare Inspections; along with the Office of Contract Review and the Office of Management and Administration. In addition to the Washington, DC, headquarters, OIG has offices located in more than 30 cities throughout the country.

The Supervisory IT Specialist, located in the Office of Management and Administration, serves as technical expert and consultant concerning new programs, analysis techniques, computer software, automated data processing training, and conducts specialized programs upon request.

Responsibilities

As a Supervisory IT Specialist, you will:

- Coordinate to assure that Automated Data Processing needs are met within existing guidelines and resources available and that ADP solutions and systems take into account both present and future requirements.

- Advise supervisors of conflicting priorities in Automated Data Processing needs between OIG organizational elements, and refer those conflicts that cannot be resolved without higher level management.

- Serve as technical experts on the uses of information existing in VA or external systems. Evaluate the technical feasibility of proposed OIG projects requiring ADP support, and recommend actions that maximize results and reduce ADP resources required.

- Recommend Automated Data Processing training to keep OIG personnel abreast of changes and additions to VA's informational systems, and develops and conducts approved courses.

- Monitor and maintain administrative and security procedures and policies to prevent unauthorized access to OIG data in Austin. Perform reviews of established ADP security, evaluates effectiveness of physical and automated security procedures. Establish and update administrative and physical processes and procedures to protect OIG data, software, equipment, and documentation from unauthorized access, loss, damage, or destruction.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized experience: For the GS-14, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is:

- Using computer search and retrieval procedures to identify, summarize and analyze statistical data; AND

- Producing trend analysis and statistical reports using statistical software (e.g. SAS, R, STATA, etc.) in a variety of formats for use by management; AND

- Providing client support, consultation, and subject matter expertise regarding data and data analysis-related topics.

In addition to meeting specialized experience, applicants must also show proficiency in 1) attention to detail, 2) customer service, 3) oral communication, and 4) problem solving.

In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:

For the GS-14, you must have been at the GS-13 level for 52 weeks.

Time After Competitive Appointment: Candidates who are current Federal employees serving on a nontemporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment.
