Work Schedule:

Must be able to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.

Physical Requirements:

1- Plans/conducts water survival training according to TC 21-21, and conducts Shallow Water Egress Training (SWET and/or 'Dunker' Training) if the program/equipment is available.

2- In the event of an emergency, may need to be able to assist with lifting a customer from the pool during a rescue weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.

3- Able to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds to be able to move pool chemicals as needed.

License Requirement:

Possess and have the ability to maintain a valid state Driver's License. May be required to drive a government vehicle in the performance of duties to include transporting equipment and supplies to various facilities/locations.

Responsibilities

Plans and establishes an aquatic certification curriculum to include lifeguarding, lifeguard instructor, water safety instructor, water fitness instructor, swim lesson, special events, clinics, intramural aquatic swim meets.

Plans and establishes other safety, fitness and recreational certification and educational programming.

Develop and implement Aquatic Programs that meet the needs of the adult and youth community, such as water aerobics, wellness programs, competitive events, intramural aquatic swim meets.

Responsible for preparing and executing appropriated fund (APF) and nonappropriated fund (NAF) budget(s) for assigned facilities, programs and personnel.

Develops and updates the Standard Operating Procedures for the aquatic facilities, programs, enforces policies and ensures staff is fully aware of the procedures.

Plans and executes data collection for the Department of Defense (DOD) and Department of Army (DA) Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) standard reports and ensures timely submission of all reports.

For facilities that use Oxygen Administration O2 bottles the O2 Administration certification (Red Cross or installation offered training) must be obtained within two (2) weeks of reporting for duty.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

Possesses one (1) year of demonstrated work experience in planning, administering and executing aquatic programs. Required experience must have been equivalent to the next lower grade level.

NOTE: This experience may have been gained managing indoor or outdoor aquatic programs and facilities.

NOTE: An undergraduate or graduate degree in related fields such as Physical Education or Kinesiology may be substituted for six (6) months of the required work experience.

Possesses and maintains the following certifications:

- American Red Cross Lifeguarding and First Aid

- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for the Professional Rescuer/Automated external defibrillator (AED)

- Lifeguard Instructor (Red Cross)

- Water Safety Instructor (Red Cross)

- Aquatic Facilities Operator (AFO) or Certified Pool Operator(CPO) certification

- In addition, for facilities that use Oxygen Administration O2 bottles the O2 Administration certification (Red Cross or installation offered training) must be obtained within two weeks of reporting for duty.

Highly Desirable:

- Possess a valid/current Lifeguard Instructor Trainer (Red Cross) Certification.

- Possess a valid/current Water Safety Instructor Trainer (Red Cross) Certification.

- Possess a valid/current Equipment (Safe Operation and Basic Maintenance Repair); Nationally Recognized Basic Fitness Trainer Certification or Aquatic Exercise Association Instructor; Adapted Aquatics Instructor Certification.

- Possess a valid/current SCUBA Diving Instructor Certification from the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI), National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI), Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) or equivalent.
