### Summary

Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (TVHS) has a critical need for expertise in the field of Neuroimmunology. The Neuroimmunologist will be responsible for evaluating and treating veterans , educating patients and providers, and implementing comprehensive multiple sclerosis management modalities. The Neuroimmunologist will see patients at the Nashville campus and provide expertise to the referral region through consultation and other modalities as appropriate. Appointment in the Department of Neurology at the academic affiliate, Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, is required to oversee the training of medical students, residents, and fellows. The incumbent must have completed a fellowship in Neuroimmunology and have at least three years of experience as a member of Multiple Sclerosis Center of Excellence. The incumbent will be expected to work in coordination with the Veterans Affairs Multiple Sclerosis Centers of Excellence to establish a MS Regional Program in the VISN. The major functions and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

### Responsibilities

Functions:

a. Clinical Responsibilities : The incumbent will evaluate patients and interpret studies in inpatient and outpatient settings as well as by telehealth modalities and electronic consultation. The incumbent will also review requests from the referral region through consultation and authorization of care in the community as appropriate.

b. Academic/Teaching/Training: The incumbent will be expected to develop and oversee comprehensive educational plans for patients and caregivers, medical students, residents , fellows, health care providers, nurses, and staff.

c. Administrative /Program/Evaluation/Outcome Measurement/Research: The incumbent will be expected to attend appropriate committee meetings in addition to Neurology staff meetings. The incumbent will be required to evaluate and supervise medical students, residents, fellows, nurse practitioners and other staff members, assist with clinic schedules, and create policies and standard operating procedures for safe operations of Neuroimmunology Clinics.

d. Other Significant Responsibilities : The incumbent will be expected to work with the Veterans Affairs Mutliple Sclerosis Centers of Excellence to establish a regional program.

### Qualifications

Basic Requirements :

United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.

Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.

Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience:

1. Residency training in Neurology

2. Fellowship training in Neuroimmunology

3. Three years of clinical practice in a Multiple Sclerosis Center of Excellence.

Physical Requirements: Work is primarily sedentary; however, some walking, standing, and bending may be required by the position. May require occasional travel between both campuses. Other requirements include carrying/lifting small and/or lightweight office type equipment (e.g. copy machine, fax machine, telephones, audiovisual equipment, conference call equipment, personal computers, scanners, and printers).
