Summary

You will serve as a Physical Therapy Assistant in the Physical Therapy Department of NAVAL HOSPITAL - 29 PALMS.

THIS IS AN EXPEDITED HIRING AUTHORITY ANNOUNCEMENT. Section 1599c, title 10, United States Code provides that the Secretary of Defense can designate positions as shortage positions and recruit and appoint highly qualified persons to these positions. This announcement is open to accept resumes from candidates interested in helping the Department of the Navy meet our mission requirements in health care occupations.

He/She will provide Physical Therapy treatment under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist in the Physical Therapy Department. This position contributes to the environment of care through maintenance of a safe and supportive care environment for patients, clinic team members and other NHTP Staff served by or providing services within NHTP.

Responsibilities

You will plan and administer therapy as the employee in charge of specialized treatment area.

You will monitor patients undergoing procedures and or treatments and identifies patients with acute distress or with a potential acuity change.

You will commensurate with training and scope of responsibility, operates specialized Section/Department medical equipment.

You will answers calls, greet patients and respond to patient inquiries with may include; appointment times, clinic wait times, clinic services and other related inquiries.

You will commensurate with training and scope of responsibility, enters and retrieves patient information from the Section/Department Patient Information Systems.

You will obtain and/or correctly assemble/maintain outpatient health records.

You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.

You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Basic Life Support certification.

A seasonal influenza vaccination is required.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate some or all of the following: 1) Obtain and correctly assemble/maintain outpatient health records; 2) Prepare patient charts for use by the designated licensed credentialed provider; 3) Assist in providing a patient explanation of the healthcare services being rendered and or available; 4) Demonstrate the effects and expected outcomes of rendered clinical procedures; 5) Assist in demonstrating patient assessment techniques and basic therapeutic processes and principles necessary to ensure active participation of patient care development; 6) Answer telephone calls, greet patients and respond to patient inquiries which may include appointment times, clinic wait times and clinic services.
