What is the Wage & Investment Division: The Wage & Investment (W&I) Division serves about 122 million taxpayers who file upwards of 94 million returns each year. Key W&I objectives are to provide high-quality taxpayer assistance, and to enable taxpayers to transact and communicate electronically to file their returns, make payments and receive assistance. W&I partners with private organizations to provide assistance to such disadvantaged groups as elderlyand low-income taxpayers.

If selected you will work as a student trainee, GS-399-01 in the Wage & Investment Division.

30 Part time positions Not To Exceed (NTE) either 60 or 90 days located in Fresno, CA.

The anticipated start date may be March 7, 2018 or March 19, 2018.

Responsibilities

As a Student Trainee NTE Intern you will:

Receive, record, sort, batch, associate, control, stage, collect, mail, extract and distribute incoming/outgoing work.

Maintain, update, and purge suspense/closed files; examine and perfect documents; determine header data and number return/documents.

Perform a variety of administrative tasks using an automated system which involves: inputting, assigning, maintaining, monitoring, or updating work status and inventory records; administering and performing other support activity.

Assist technician/specialist in collecting, organizing and maintaining program and/or functional documentation and materials.

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

BASIC REQUIREMENT:

GS-1 LEVEL: To qualify for the grade 1 level, you must be 16 years of age, this is the minimum age allowed for Federal employment.

In addition to the above, you MUST meet the definition of a STUDENT for the duration of your appointment as follows: An individual accepted for enrollment or enrolled and seeking a degree/diploma (high school), college (4-year college/university, community college, and junior college); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree (or certificate) in a qualifying and accredited educational institution, on a full or half-time basis (as defined by the institution in which the student is enrolled), including awardees of the Harry S. Truman Foundation Scholarship Program under Public Law 93–842. Students need not be in actual physical attendance, so long as all other requirements are met. An individual who needs to complete less than the equivalent of half an academic/vocational or technical course-load immediately prior to graduating is still considered a student for purposes of this Program. GPA: You must maintain good academic standing with an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Please ensure transcripts and/or proof of enrollment shows your cumulative (overall) GPA; and indicate name of school, dates of enrollment and projected graduation date on your resume.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

All selectees must sign a Pathways Participant Agreement.

Complete a trial period, which is at a minimum the entire length of the Internship program.

Provide proof of education (transcripts or letter of enrollment) at time of application. Official transcripts/documents are required if you are selected.

This is a bargaining unit position.

Must successfully complete a background investigation including an FBI criminal history record check (fingerprint check).

Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency

Have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.

Tour of Duty is Monday - Friday: 3:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. or 4 p.m. - 8 p.m.
