THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.
This National Guard position is for a Surface Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor, Position Description Number D1290000 and is part of the RI Field Maintenance Shop 3, National Guard.

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. If a permanent status employee at the same grade level as this
announcement is selected, the nature of action will be a Reassignment; tenure will not change. If a permanent excepted status employee is
selected at a higher grade, the nature of action will be a Promotion. If an Indefinite employee, or a new technician without tenure is selected for
this position, they will have to serve a conditional trial period.
This position is located in the Joint Forces Headquarters-State, Logistics Directorate (J-4), Surface Maintenance Shop #3. The purpose of this
position is to supervise workers directly or through subordinate leaders and/or supervisors in accomplishing work of the function. Plans work
operations of great scope, complexity, and administrative authority. Determines the sequence, priority, and time for performance of operations
within the limits of broad work schedules and time limits. The occupation and non-supervisory grade level which best reflects the nature of the
overall work operations supervised is Surface Maintenance Mechanic, WG-5801-10.

A Surface Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor, WS-5801-10, plans use of subordinate workers, equipment, facilities, and materials on a week-toweek
or month-to-month basis. Establishes deadlines, priorities, and work sequences, and plans work assignments based on general work
schedules, methods, and policies set by the supervisor. Coordinates work with supporting or related work functions controlled by other
supervisors. Determines the number and types of workers needed to accomplish specific projects. Determines skills, materials, and equipment
required to do the work. Redirects individual workers and resources to accomplish unanticipated work. Informs the supervisor of the need to
revise work schedules and re-estimate labor and other resources. Participates in the initial planning of current and future work schedules,
staffing needs, estimates, and recommendations as to scheduling projected work. Assists the supervisor with quarterly funding distribution and
decisions, based on operational needs for units supported by customer activities. Reviews funding requirements, prioritizes request and
allocates funding based on readiness, training, and mobilization requirements. Provides management with workload data, estimates, and
recommendations to facilitate more effective management decisions for staffing and funding requirements to support customer units.

This is a Dual Status Excepted Service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Rhode Island Army National
Guard (RIARNG). Selected candidate(s) will be required to be in a compatible military grade and assignment within 60 days of the effective date
of placement. Should be MOS qualified within one year of placement action.
Military Grades: E-6 to W-3.
Compatible Military Assignments in ECMF: 25, 88, 91, 92, 94.
Medical Examination: Protocol B
Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates that the candidate has the ability to organize assignments for
subordinates, estimate material and manpower needed for specific jobs; able to explain manuals and work procedures; and to prepare
production records, work records and reports.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: In addition to the journeyman level knowledge, 36 months Specialized Experience which demonstrates the ability
to plan, direct, and organize work assignments for lower grade personnel. Experience which required the review of work requirements and
establish priorities to meet deadlines. Experience that provided knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function. Experience which
demonstrates the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general
supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes. Experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations.
