The Utility Systems Repairer/Operator performs operation, repair, and maintenance of high pressure steam boilers, regulated medical waste disposal system, accessories and auxiliary equipment as described below. The USRO monitors medical gas, fire alarm, energy management and chiller plant systems using state-of-the-art computer systems.

Performs ,operation, repair, and maintenance of high pressure steam boilers, regulated medical waste disposal system, accessories and auxiliary equipment. The USRO monitors medical gas, fire alarm, energy management and chiller plant systems using state of the art computer systems.
Due to safety concerns inherent with the operation of high pressure boilers, the USRO must continue to perform duties until relieved by a qualified USRO. The USRO is required to work independent of direct supervision of assistance on rotating shifts.
Receives and dispatches service calls after normal working hours, maintains a computerized Iog of all calls and actions, and maintains all logs and records required for plant operation.
The plant and building contain hazardous chemicals that requires special handling procedures and protection. Conditions require appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, hearing protection, eye wear and gloves, be worn.
Prepares Purchase requests for repair parts and service.
Initiates electronic work orders for deficiencies fund in the performance of duties. Requests PM numbers for newly installed equipment, including equipment installed by contact.
Makes personal contact with vendors to schedule service or request information on parts availability and pricing. Coordinates projects, the repair of equipment and service with other maintenance shops.
License Required: High Pressure Boiler License
24 hour rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays- 8am-4pm, 4pm-12am, 12am-8am 7 days weekly

Incumbent makes repairs from ladders, scaffolding and platforms to reach equipment in out-of-the-way places. Work requires standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Occasionally lifts and carries items over 100 pounds. When working on ladders and scaffolds, must be able to carry tools and materials.
