Essential Job Functions
A Tree Trimmer, Temporary is responsible for performing a combination of the following essential job functions: climbs trees to trim or shape trees; uses rigging to climb trees and lower branches; strips, fills, and cuts trees for disposal; plants and transplants trees, maintains clearance along sidewalks and roads; operates hand and power driven cutting tools; sharpens and maintains saws and cutting tools; maintains and prepares all climbing and safety equipment; and drives a medium or heavy truck to and from work sites.
One year's experience in tree maintenance and care work. Successful completion of an approved training program in tree maintenance will be accepted for six months of the required experience.
A valid California Class C Driver License is required to perform job-related essential functions.
Physical Class IV - Arduous: Involves frequent heavy lifting over 25 pounds, often combined with bending, twisting, or working on irregular surfaces; and occasionally requires extraordinary physical activity.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION
Successful applicants for this position will be required to obtain a copy of his/her driving record from the California State Department of Motor Vehicles before being hired. A copy of your driving record must be presented at the time of your appointment. License must not be suspended, restricted or revoked. A N APPLICANT WHOSE DRIVING RECORD SHOWS FOUR OR MORE MOVING VIOLATIONS WITHIN THE LAST TWO YEARS WILL NOT BE APPOINTED.
Appointees may be required to provide automobiles and drive them in the County service at the rate of compensation allowed by the Board of Supervisors.
Applicants who expect to qualify through the completion of a tree maintenance training program must attach certificate at the time of filing.
This examination will consist of two parts:
Part I: Qualifying Performance Test consisting of inspection of safety equipment; knot tying; tree climbing (footlock or body thrust method); use of a chain saw; procedure for cutting and lowering limbs; procedure for felling a tree; and correct use of a brush chipper.
Part II: Interview weighted 100% covering training, experience, personal fitness and general ability to perform the duties of the position.
Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the interview in order to be placed on the eligible register.
The names of candidates receiving a passing grade on the examination will be added to the eligible register and, unless appointed, will appear in the order of their score group for a period of 12 months following the date of promulgation.
NO PERSON MAY COMPETE FOR THIS EXAMINATION MORE THAN ONCE EVERY 12 MONTHS.
The resulting eligible register for this examination will be used to fill Temporary
vacancies in the Department of Public Works-Road Maintenance Division.

Before a final appointment is made to this position, candidates are subject to security clearance which includes fingerprinting. An individual may be withheld from appointment, if he/she has a conviction record incompatible with the essential duties of the position for which he/she has applied. Any false statement or omission of material fact may cause forfeiture of employment rights.
