Charter Schools Division/Office of External Affairs and Policy

Description of Duties:

Under general to limited supervision, responsible for administering grant funding for charter schools. Duties include, but are not limited to, reviewing grant applications, budgets and program plans; reviewing grant proposals, rating grants, distributing grant monies, and tracking the use of grant funds; collecting, summarizing, and analyzing grant information for use in state board presentations and annual reports; designing training programs for grant applicants and awardees; providing ongoing technical assistance to charter petitioners and local school systems; coordinating grant monitoring program; interpreting state and federal laws, regulations and instructions and policies for charter schools; monitoring compliance and progress of grant recipients’ program through on-site evaluations and reviews of plans and reports; updating and editing charter schools grants programs websites; and completing other special projects and duties as assigned. * Note: Some state-wide travel is required.

Minimum Qualifications:

A GADOE employee

. A Bachelor’s degree in business, public policy, law, or a related field from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of experience in grants management, public funds administration, accounting or a closely related area.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following:

• Master’s or comparable advanced degree in public policy, law or a related field

• Advanced skills in using Microsoft Word, Excel and Access

• Experience administering a state or federal grant program

• Experience with a charter school petition review and approval process at the district or state level

• Knowledge of EDGAR, the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, and State laws and regulations

• Experience developing program evaluation instruments and evaluating results

• Experience in reviewing grant proposals

• Experience providing extensive technical assistance to grant applicants

• Excellent oral and written communication skills

• Knowledge and experience in financial management


Pay Grade L – Annual salary range is $40,983 (minimum) up to $71,720 (maximum). * Salary is commensurate with current employment, relevant education/training and work experience; and available funding.
