* one (1) Health Technician, GS-0640-06
* vacancy with the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System located at the Lecanto VA Community Based Outpatient Clinic in Lecanto, FL.

Responsibilities
The health technician must demonstrate proficiency in practice using the nursing process in providing care for veterans with complex nursing needs under the direction of the registered nurse. The health technician builds and sustains positive relationships and handles conflicts and negotiates effectively. The duties of the position include, but not limited to:
Perform patient check in, including obtaining and recording demographic data, vital signs, height, weight, chief complaint, brief history, current medications and measurements for specific age groups.
Perform Phlebotomy, selected treatments and procedures using aseptic technique when.
Prepare patient and treatment area and assists health care professionals with diagnostic and therapeutic clinic procedures.
Monitors patients during and after procedures and reports observations to APN/ RN/LPN and MD.
Recognizes and responds to emergency situations.
Communicate results of diagnostic tests to patients.
Use computer systems to innput workload and billable care data.
Use universal precautions and personal protective equipment when necessary in all direct patient care situations.
Maintain examination rooms by ordering and replenishing supplies, and cleaning and organizing between patients.
Maintain quality control standards of laboratory instruments used to test blood and body fluid specimens including calibration, maintenance, maintaining adequate supplies and recognizing and reporting malfunctions.
Compliant with all information security rules and guidelines, including HIPPA.
Communicate clearly, both written and verbally.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/29/2018.
Time-In-Grade Requirement
: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
* Specialized Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: taking vitals and gathering other information for patient, collecting specimen for testing, maintaining patient examination rooms, recognizing and responding to emergent situations, etc.
* Education:
There is no educational substitution at this level.
Preferred - Highly qualified applicants will have the following:
* Basic Life Support (BLS)
* Previous ambulatory care and/or community based experience
* Excellent skills in phlebotomy and interpersonal relations with the health care team and general public; strong family advocate
* Important individual characteristics: Creativity, flexibility, strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize and multi task as well as the ability to work in fast-paced environment

Note
: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements:
The work requires standing, walking, bending, lifting and carrying of light items. The work requires above average agility and dexterity. The work may require heavy lifting of equipment or patients.
Work Environment:
The work environment involves risks typically associated with performance facility work. Work involves regular and recurring exposure to moderate risks or discomforts that require special safety precautions.

Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave

This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
