Reclamation is seeking an entry level Intern-indefinite looking for an opportunity to be a Student Trainee (Clerical and Assistance). Make a difference in the West by assisting in meeting increasing water demands while protecting the environment.
The applicant must be a current Bureau of Reclamation employee serving under a Pathways Intern position, who has been accepted for enrollment or currently enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in a qualifying educational institution in order to be eligible to be considerate for this position opportunity.
The selected student will be appointed at the GS-04 ($14.30 per hour) federal pay grade level, which is determined by meeting the qualification requirements.

This is a career development opportunity in the excepted service under the Bureau of Reclamation Pathways Internship Program. To be eligible for this opportunity, applicants must:

Individuals serving in Intern-indefinite appointments may be noncompetitively converted to a permanent position within 120 days of successful completion of the program but conversion is neither promised nor guaranteed. To be eligible for conversion to a permanent or term position, these Interns must also:
- Be a U.S. Citizen or National;
- Complete at least 640 hours of work experience acquired through the Internship Program;
- Complete their degree or certificate requirements;
- Meet the Office of Personnel Management's qualification standards for the position to which the Intern will be converted (which may include a positive education requirement);
- Meet all agency and program specific requirements as specified in their individual Participant Agreement;
- Perform their job successfully as documented through performance evaluations; and
- Be recommended for conversion by their manager or supervisor.
Interns must continue to meet program eligibility requirements throughout the duration of the appointment.

Must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited college or university at least part-time, seeking a degree, and be in good academic standing (as defined by the school).
GS-04: Completion of 2 full academic years of post-high school study or Associate's degree; **OR** Completion of 1 academic years of post-high school study and 2 periods of Student Trainee work experience; **OR** Completion of 1 1/2 academic years of study and 1 period of Student Trainee work experience; or 1 year of general work experience.
General work experience shows ability to perform progressively more complex, responsible, or difficult duties; and that shows abilit to learn the specific work of this job.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. The applicant will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
A period of student trainee work experience is equal to 320 hours of work experience.
Academic Year: At the undergraduate level, 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours is comparable to 1 year of undergraduate education. Four years of progressive study or 120 semester hours meets the degree requirements. At the graduate level, 18 semester hours or 27 quarter hours.
Graduated students are not eligible for this position.
This opportunity follows a standard promotional path IF CONVERTED TO A PERMANENT POSITION:
1. Internship at the GS-04 (typically college students with Sophomore or Junior standing).
2. After completion of Internship requirements, conversion to the entry-level MAY BE the GS-05 level. The actual grade level at the time of conversion depends on academic achievement and other factors.
Reclamation has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisory approval.
If the position is filled at the lower grade level, subsequent promotion to the next higher grade level per the target full performance is permissible without further competition. Promotion is not guaranteed or promised but dependent upon administrative approval and the agency’s continuing need for an actual assignment and performance at the higher level duties.
The entire period served as an Intern-indefinite is creditable toward completion of the required probationary period for initial appointment to a position in the competitive service. Prior Federal civilian service is credited toward the completion of the required probationary period in the same manner as prescribed in 5 CFR 315.802.
