The Pacific West Region of the National Park Service is recruiting for the Superintendent position at Great Basin National Park. This position is a located in Great Basin National Park. Please visit find a park for additional park information.

Who May Be Considered:

Current permanent Department of Interior (DOI) employees who have career or career-conditional status, or Department of Interior (DOI) employees in the local commuting area eligible under the Career Transition Program (CTAP)

This is a Career/Career-Conditional Full-Time appointment.


Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will be paid

if the selectee lives outside of the local commuting area and is otherwise eligible for reimbursement of relocation expenses in accordance with the Federal Travel Regulation.

The NPS may use certain incentives, currently offered by the Federal government, to attract high quality candidates.

The Superintendent plans, directs, coordinates, and provides executive leadership for the overall management and operation of Great Basin National Park. Develops, promotes, and guides the implementation of short and long term goals, objectives, and plans for the major areas of park operations: visitor and resource protection; interpretation; natural and cultural resources; facilities management; planning and compliance; administration; and concession operations, each of which are managed under subordinate supervisors. Monitors programs and assures accountability and that controls are in place. Develops or modifies park policies and assures accomplishment of the objectives and special emphasis programs of the department, service, region, and park. Initiates and executes broad plans and programs designed to operate and improve the area for the benefit and enjoyment of park visitors consistent with Service policies. Develops and maintains close working relationship with Congressional representatives; state and local elected officials; Nevada Department of Wildlife; State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO); Bureau of Land Management; U.S. Forest Service; the National Weather Service; chambers of commerce in Nevada and Utah; county governments and planning commissions; several outdoor/recreational groups; Nevada Department of Corrections - Ely; several Indian tribes; military bases in Nevada and Utah; local fire and EMS departments; commercial and special use permittees; park neighbors; and various other interest and user groups.
