A relocation\/recruitment incentive MAY be authorized for highly qualified candidates Duties The Robley Rex Veterans Affair Medical Center (VAMC) in Louisville, Kentucky, in conjunction with the Department of Medicine at the University of Louisville (UofL), is seeking a board-certified internist for the full-time position of Chief, Medical Service. The medical center is a major affiliate of the UofL School of Medicine with fully integrated medical student, residency, and fellowship programs. The VAMC offers a continuum of healthcare through primary, tertiary, and acute care in the areas of medicine, surgery, mental health, physical medicine and rehabilitation, dentistry, and extended care, utilizing 109 operating beds, and operating eight community based outpatient clinics. The Medical Service is a multidisciplinary department with approximately 57 clinical attendings and 100 clinical support staff which offers impatient care services (acute general medicine, ICCU and TCU), diagnostic services (Cardiac Catheterization, Interventional Cardiology, Electrophysiology, Stress, Nuclear Medicine, Endoscopy, ERCP, Motility Studies, TEE, Bronchoscopy, Autonomic Testing, EEG, EMG, Evoked Potential, Hematology\/Oncology, Pulmonary Function and Sleep Study Labs), and provides oversight to subspecialty care in the inpatient and outpatient settings. In addition, Medical Service plays an active role in the UofL's Department of Medicine research program. The Chief, Medical Service, functions as a vice-chairman of the Department of Veteran Affairs at the UofL. This positions carries with it important responsibilities for medical education and clinical quality assurance. The Robley Rex VAMC serves as an important site of education for medical students taking their core clinical rotation in internal medicine as well as internal medical house officers and specialty trainees. The Chief, Medical Service will work collaboratively with the officials of the UofL responsible for undergraduate and graduate medical education to assure a constructive educational experience. In addition, ongoing quality assurance procedures to assure an excellent patient experience also fall within this individual's realm of responsibility.
