Officially established in October 2006, the Orlando VA Medical Center serves more than 105,000 Veterans in Central Florida and includes a 120-bed Community Living Center, two Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Programs/Domiciliaries (60-beds located at the Lake Nona Campus and 58-beds at the Lake Baldwin Campus), three large multi-specialty Satellite Outpatient Clinics in Orlando (Lake Baldwin campus), Viera and Daytona Beach, and four Community-Based Outpatient Clinics located in Clermont, Kissimmee, Orange City, and Tavares. The new medical center at Lake Nona is open for outpatient and inpatient services and will continue to expand inpatient beds, Emergency Services, and other specialty services throughout 2018. As VA's newest state-of-the-art health care facility, Orlando's 65-acre medical campus encompasses 134 acute inpatient beds, providing complex Medical/Surgical/Mental Health specialty care, advanced diagnostic services, and a large multispecialty outpatient clinic.

Responsibilities

The incumbent serves as a Supply Technician in Medical Supply Distribution area of Logistics Service. The employee assigned to these duties will work independently to ensure that MSD's working inventory is maintained at pre-determined levels:

Employee will consult with the Item Manager and recommend and/or input changes as required.

The incumbent is responsible for accurate and timely replenishment of the inventory necessary to support the ward and clinic areas of the facility.

This individual must be able to recognize the necessity for emergency requests when stock levels fall below the reorder point or when demand exceeds the normal supply.

The employee is expected to monitor stock levels on a daily basis and work closely with the Item Manager when situations warrant, adding new items or deleting inventory no longer required.

The incumbent will manage the inventory held in the warehouse and issue to replenish the working stock for Medical Supply and Distribution section.

Work schedule: Subject to possible shift work, rotating shift, weekends and/or holidays;3:30 pm-Mid Wednesday-Sunday; 3:30 pm-Mid Saturday-Wednesday; 3:30-Mid Monday- Friday and/or 7:30 am-4:00 pm Monday- Friday.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 03/02/2018.

Time-In-Grade (TIG) Restriction: Applicants who are current Federal employees or have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must meet TIG requirements. The grade may have been in any occupation but must have been held at the GS-04 grade level for at least 1 year in the Federal service to qualify for the GS-05 grade level. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.

You may qualify based on your education/experience, as described below:

Specialized Experience: At least one (1) year of experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-04 in Federal Service. Specialized experience includes scanning, barcoding, receiving, storing and distribution of medical and surgical supplies, instruments, and other materials, knowledge of stock rotation, hazard alerts and recalls to ensure outdated or otherwise compromised supplies and materials are removed, knowledge of an automated inventory system, and analytical ability to define and recognize problems.

Substitution of Education: Four years above high school. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.

OR

Combining Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements at grades GS-5 and below. Combination of education and experience must total 100%.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
