Responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities, include history and physical examinations, diagnosis, and therapeutic-ability, effectiveness in emergencies, patient management, consultation, specialty skills and record keeping. Gastroenterologist will spend time performing clinical responsibilities of: Promotes delivery of quality patient care based on current standards in the practice of GI Diseases in our gastroenterology clinics and hospital; ICU and Hospital coverage; Performs GI Endoscopies/Special Procedures (G-tube, ERCP, etc.); Skill and knowledge necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served, including the ability to identify patient needs and to provide the care needed to promote improvement.

Teaching responsibilities include the effectiveness in teaching, monitoring and coordination of educational activities - planning, evaluating and documenting. Gastroenterologist's educational responsibilities include: Teaching house staff/students in ICU/Hospital/outpatient clinic; Research responsibilities and development include the ability to identify and define significant research and development problems, to plan and execute a precise research program and to generate effective reports and results worthy of publication. Communicates and promotes the broad use of the results of research and development.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00am to 4:30 pm with on-call duties on the weekend, night, and holiday as necessary.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.

Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.

Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience: Board Certified or Eligible in Gastroenterology
