This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT ENGINE MECHANIC (Title 32), Position Description Number D1635000 and is part of the IL 183 WG, National Guard.

Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list:

\tTroubleshoot malfunctioning engines and interrelated propulsion system components, determine degree of disassembly or certification required, repair or replace defective components, diagnostic computers and associated hardware.
\tAnalyze malfunctions using schematic and wiring diagrams, blueprints, manufacturer's specifications, computer diagnostics data, inspection findings, trending data and aircrew debriefs.
\tPerform engine run operation on installed and uninstalled engines to troubleshoot malfunctions or verify findings.
\tRemove and install engines and auxiliary power units. Operate, Automated Ground Test Systems (AGETS), trouble-shoot and repair aircraft jet engines.
\tTroubleshoot, modify, repair, and perform sequential disassembly and assembly of gearboxes and auxiliary power units.
\tPerform evaluations that must be accomplished at critical points in the repair/build-up process using a variety of quality characteristics, consisting of complete systems or components and assemblies that undergo many steps in a repair process and have highly critical tolerances.
\tPerform test cell operation of engine and aircraft run up, analyze operating parameters, make final adjustments and verify that engine is operating within acceptable parameters for safe operation in the aircraft.
\tPerform scheduled and special evaluations on installed engines, auxiliary power units, and associated airframe-mounted systems.
\tInterpret Engine Management trend data and investigates trend anomalies to eliminate catastrophic engine failure or damage by the prediction and detection of adverse trends towards known failure modes before they occur.
\tPerform command directed and locally established in-progress inspections (IPI) (certifying acceptable performance of all conventional or modified aircraft engines prior to their being installed in the aircraft or placed in inventory) of propulsion system components and associated equipment to determine adequacy of workmanship, materials and maintenance.
\tMake final certification of completed work and critical engine build measurements, annotating by signature that work and tolerances are correct.
,qualifications:AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of considerations for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code § 709), will be in the following manner and sequence,

\tThe FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians in the Springfield Air National Guard at Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport
\tThe SECOND area of consideration will be all members of the Illinois Air National Guard.
\tThe THIRD area of consideration will be all those eligible for membership in the Illinois Air National Guard.

Military Grades: Enlisted Only - May not exceed the rank of MSgt.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the ability to perform assembly and disassembly operations and make prescribed modifications to aircraft engines, engine assemblies, and accessories in accordance with technical specifications, procedures and requirements; and experience using hand and power tools common to the trade.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WG-10 Level - Must have at least 18 months of experience or training performing standard, routine assembly and disassembly operations and making prescribed modifications to aircraft engines, engine assemblies, and accessories; experience or training performing maintenance overhaul, troubleshooting, testing, and repair of aircraft engines, engine components, and power trains for fixed and/ or rotary wing aircraft; experience determining maintenance needed from work orders, inspection reports, historical record, and by own diagnosis. WG-08 Level - Must have at least 12 months of experience or training removing and installing components and accessories with detailed guidance; experience in following detailed instructions in making minor repairs and modifications to aircraft engines, subassemblies and components. WG-05 Level - Must have at least 6 months of experience using common hand tools in making repetitive mechanical repairs under close supervision; and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the simpler and routine duties of the trade.
