The primary purpose of this position is to serve primarily as an Occupational Therapist. This position will support the overall program objective to provide interdisciplinary evaluation and treatment for Warriors and other eligible beneficiaries with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Psychological Health diagnoses. The position requires the ability to work with great autonomy, balance activities, organize work, set priorities and delegate tasks, meet deadlines, analyze organizational problems and develop and implement effective solutions.

Two years of experience in the area of inpatient/outpatient traumatic brain injury care is highly desired.

Must maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Credentials appropriate to prescribe and perform physical agent modalities in treatment of various musculoskeletal disorders are highly desired.

Must meet the annual Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements for Biomedical Sciences Corps clinician.

Must be able to receive/maintain regular privileges/medical staff appointment as an Occupational Therapist by the facility credentials office, to include participation in ongoing peer review.

May be required to carry and respond to a pager during work hours.

The employee will comply with locally directed MTF commander training consistent with AF wide standards and directives applicable to Active Duty and contractor personnel performing similar occupational series duties.

Subject to temporary duty assignment approximately 14 days per year.

Performs other duties as assigned.

A Master's or Doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy from an academic institute accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association is highly desired.


Specialized Experience: I possess a graduate or higher level degree that included: An occupational therapy curriculum approved by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education(ACOTE) OR a professional accrediting organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained; AND Completion of the clinical requirements prescribed by the school. ADDITIONALLY, applicants must have passed the national examination administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). IN ADDITION, Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience at the GS-11 or equivalent. Specialized experience includes Professional knowledge of theory, principles, practices, methodologies, and techniques of occupational therapy, evaluation, and treatment plans to assess and treat a broad spectrum of medically complex diagnoses; requiring extended education. Conditions may include, but are not limited to, neuro-musculoskeletal disorders, orthopedic conditions, traumatic brain injury, pain and/or amputations. NOTE: Applicants who have completed an approved graduate level curriculum and who subsequently completed additional graduate training in a specialized field of clinical practice designed to assure professional competence to practice in the specialty meet the requirements for GS-11. ****FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Applicants must have served at least 52 weeks at the GS-11 or higher grade (or equivalent in an alternate pay system) within the Federal Civil Service to be considered for referral. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1. Professional knowledge obtained through professional training and clinical experience examining, evaluating, diagnosing, and treating TBI, neuromuscular and musculoskeletal disease/pathology, impairment, and functional limitations via evidence-based clinical practice.

2. Knowledge of the etiology, pathoanatomy, pathophysiology, pathomechanics, and manifestations of the full range of organic and functional cognitive and physical disorders, their causes, and complicating factors contributing to the overall impairment and functional limitations.

3. Knowledge of and hands on motor skills consistent with evidence-based practice.

4. Knowledge of instruction principles as applied to the training of staff Occupational Therapists (OT), OT intern students, enlisted Physical Medicine Technicians, COTA's, resident/intern physicians and other professionals.

5. Knowledge of health delivery and support services in order to work as an integral member of patient care teams; work effectively with other health professionals, paraprofessionals, and support staff; consult with other specialists; and effectively deliver OT services to both outpatients and inpatients.

6. Knowledge (In-depth) of all levels of traumatic brain injury and the recovery/rehabilitative process.

7. Ability to use automated medical records and/or health care management databases.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
