The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of welding in support of maintenance activities.
TEXAS ARMY NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an Excepted Service position that requires active membership in a compatible military assignment in the Texas Army National Guard and wear of the military uniform. Applicants who are not currently a member of the Texas Army National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the Texas Army National Guard. As a WELDER, WG-3703-10, the following duties apply to this position:
Performs welding duties using electric, acetylene, and/or inert gas shielded welding processes, pre-heating, brazing, head welding, tack welding, flame cutting, pressure welding, and heat treating.
Works under the general supervision of the Allied Trades Supervisor who assigns work through verbal instructions, work orders, and inspection reports. Relied upon to determine work to be done and steps needed to accomplish the work.
Uses templates, jigs, blueprints, and other guides to repair, modify, or fabricate metal items including repair of light or intricately made mechanical parts, which must fit in assemblies where close tolerances are required.
Brazes dissimilar metals; flame cuts metal to size for fabrication, using regular welding equipment.
Reads and interprets blueprints and sketches.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Compatible Military Assignments:
Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
To qualify at the WG-10 grade level, your resume must include relevant experience with beginning and ending dates of employment/experience reflecting 18 months experience or training demonstrating the application of a variety of electric resistance welding processes and equipment. Experience in using accepted trade methods and a variety of manual welding processes to weld all types of commonly used metals in various shapes, sizes and thicknesses. Experience using a wider range of metal welding processes to make more difficult welds meeting close tolerance, strength and other requirements. These welds may be in hard to reach places. Experience which allows the welder to devise special jigs and fixtures to hold the parts to be welded. Experience which demonstrates knowledge of several related trade procedures. Experience which enables the lay out and planning of work from blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications and work orders.
This job does not have an education qualification requirement.
