Responsibilities

The Lead MSA is responsible for providing guidance and leadership to the Call Center Agents as well as ensuring assistance to Veterans providing a smooth process for the management of his/her outpatient appointments as well as support work in connection with the care and treatment given to the Veterans by performing a variety of support duties that facilitate the work of physicians, physician assistants, nurses, nursing support staff, and other members of the medical facility who provide patient care.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

Preferred Experience: Experience working in a Call Center with practical knowledge of computerized data entry and information processing systems, ensures the database integrity by monitoring for accuracy and completeness, creating and maintaining staff work schedules, orienting and providing on the job training for new an current staff.

Minimum Qualifications: Possess at least six months of clerical, office or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform Medical Support Assistant (MSA) work -OR- one year of education above high school -OR- an equivalent combination of experience and education. An example would be one year of clerical or office experience and six months of education above high school.

Specialized Experience: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 grade level? Examples of specialized experience include, but is not limited to: coordinating with the patient care teams to review the clinic utilization by using various reports; ensuring that the clinic setup is closely monitored to effectively support the needs of the clinic and making any necessary adjustments; developing/maintaining effective and efficient communication with the patients, interdisciplinary teams, medical centers, and other healthcare agencies; notifying patients of normal lab results; developing and managing a tracking system for follow up care such as consults, tests, etc.; entering appropriate information into the electronic record; monitoring pre-appointment requirements to assure readiness for patient visit/procedure (e.g., X-ray, lab work); managing electronic wait lists to verify and validate accuracy and resolve issues; and participating in and independently following up on team huddles by sharing information and collaborating with the medical team to assure continuity of care.

The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-6.

Physical Requirements: The majority of work is performed in an office setting, primarily while seated. The position requires some standing, ambulation, bending and carrying of items such as training manuals. In addition there can be increased stress due to intensity of patient/customer complaint or concern.
