SLC VHA employees will get first consideration
The position of Housekeeping Aid Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and supervising the cleaning, sanitation, and infection control of patient care, administrative, and public areas of the Medical Center. This position is aligned in the Environmental Programs Services (EPS), part of the Environmental Management Services (EMS).

Responsibilities
Supervisory 55%
Supervises the work of up to 10 WG-2 assigned housekeeping aids and is responsible for the quality and quantity of work accomplished by the employees in the group.
Makes workload assignments to subordinates so that workload is spread as evenly as possible amongst employees, guided by the needs of the Medical Center.
Conducts periodic inspections of each assigned area to ensure effective cleaning, sanitation, and infection control procedures are being used.
Ensures that emergent and priority issues are responded to promptly so that adverse impacts to areas of responsibility are minimal.
Administers appropriate disciplinary actions to staff when required.
Approves employee leaves, tracks employee time and attendance and certifies time cards for assigned staff.
Recommends employees for promotion and awards.
Completes annual appraisals for all assigned staff.
Administrative 25%
Monitors the operational status of assigned housekeeping equipment to assure equipment is available for
use and in proper working condition. Submits work orders on equipment when required.
Participates in the development and implementation of training programs to help ensure that continued and recurring training for subordinates is administered in a way that meets management's employee training requirements.
Monitors the stock of supplies in housekeeping supply rooms to assure appropriate levels. Oversees the issuance of supplies to employees to ensure they are adequately stocked.
Serves as a management representative at meetings, hearings, and negotiations involving labor management relations and fully supports the agency and Medical Center EEOA plan.
Communicates with customers in a courteous, timely and constructive manner so that a professional rapport is established and maintained and the needs of the customers are addressed.
Resolves complains.
Advises management on hiring and firing decisions.

Assists with housekeeping duties including washing, cleaning, scrubbing, waxing as needed, based on staffing and workload requirements.

EXPERIENCE:
A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C.
SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT:
Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Promotion Potential
: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

Physical Effort
Spends five to six hours a day walking and standing with approximately two to three hours daily performing desk type work. When assisting in work areas may occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
Working Conditions
Work is generally performed indoors where light and ventilation are adequate. May be exposed to contagions, noise and minor cuts bruises when working in areas or with power equipment. May be exposed to chemicals and cleaning solutions requiring the use of personal protective equipment.

Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave:
Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. VA may offer newly-appointed Federal employee's credit for their job-related non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
