The Office of Employee Benefits (OEB) is a critical part of the Federal Reserve System (System) with responsibility for the strategy, design, vendor management and administration of the Federal Reserve's benefits plans serving employees and retirees nationwide. The OEB is seeking an experienced accountant with a background in accounting policy, financial statement preparation and analysis to support financial planning, reporting, and analysis including financial statement preparation for OEB, the Federal Reserve System Retirement Plan and the Federal Reserve System Thrift Plan (Plans), which are qualified plans. Responsibilities may include supporting the development and reporting of the OEB's annual operating and capital budgets/forecasts and monthly reporting and analysis of the OEB's results.
This position is conveniently located at 1 Riverfront Plaza, Newark, New Jersey directly across from public transportation and access to parking.
Support OEB business areas to help them meet financial objectives. Interpret and apply accounting standards as they apply to OEB and the Plans;
Prepare financial reports and financial statements, including performing ongoing analyses of accounts and preparing and inputting journal entries into the general ledger;
Provide accounting expertise and advice to support the goals and objectives of the department, OEB and the System;
Monitor and perform internal control processes, including Sarbanes Oxley processes. Suggest changes, when appropriate, to improve operational effectiveness and promote accomplishment of objectives;
Support or participate in OEB or System meetings, tasks forces, workgroups, etc., pertaining to issues relevant to the OEB`s work. May conduct research, provide information, and prepare formal reports and recommendations for multiple levels of audiences;
Maintain a working knowledge of all business area functions, their operations, their strategies, their challenges, and their resource needs as it relates to financial reporting, accounting and budgeting;
Build relationships and maintain effective communication and coordination between the department, other OEB departments, the System, vendors, and/or other external customers;
Perform duties of the position in compliance with applicable policy, standards and procedures while also monitoring procedures for continuous improvement, such as suggesting changes that could enhance department performance, manage or lower risk, etc.
A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance. A Master`s degree in accounting, business, finance and/or a CPA is a plus;
Approximately 5-7 years of relevant experience and a strong knowledge of accounting standards, financial control policies and procedures;
Proven ability to prepare financial reports and financial statements and present complex information to audiences at all levels;
Experience with investment accounting, and one or more of the following is highly desirable: private equity and real estate investments, benefit plan accounting, or alternative investment accounting;
Proficient in working with different systems to retrieve, synthesize, and analyze data;
Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills;
Strong verbal and written communication skills;
Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skills;
Ability to drive results both as an individual and in a team environment;
Strict attention to detail; ability to work independently on assignments with minimal supervision; the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously;
Strong relationship management and influencing skills.
