DoDEA is a major Department of Defense (DoD) Field Activity with worldwide scope. DoDEA plans, directs, coordinates, and manages the education programs for DoD dependents. DoDEA consists of three regions, DoDEA Americas, DoDEA Europe, and DoDEA Pacific and a total of eight school districts located overseas and in the U.S. and its territories. DoDEA provides education to eligible DoD military and civilian dependents from pre-kindergarten through grade 12.

As a Motor Vehicle Operator at the WG-5703-7 some of your typical work assignments may include:
-Provides safe and efficient transportation for students to and from school
-Operates a passenger bus with an approximate gross vehicle weight up to 30,000 pounds and with passenger capacity ranging from 44 to 72 students
-Conducts maintenance and safety checks on the school bus prior to beginning all routes and report problems to the designated government representative
-Responsible for the general cleaning of bus to include cleaning inside of bus daily and washing exterior of the bus once a month
-Assists in the loading and unloading of children with special needs and their equipment, as well as assisting these students in getting to and from their classrooms
-Works with students in order to establish and maintain safety on the bus at all times
-Reports all disciplinary action to the school principal
-Records bus route and schedule, including time information, on the trip ticket; fills out accident reports, when necessary

This position requires a Commercial Drivers License (CDL)
Drivers work half of the daily hours in the morning and return to work the remaining hours in the afternoon.
Status candidates must meet time-in-grade requirements (52 weeks at the next lower grade level).

Examples of qualifying experience include:
· Working knowledge of the proper care and operation of a school bus, including safe driving skills and the ability to detect mechanical problems
· Ability to operate wheelchair lifts
· Ability to elicit the cooperation of passengers with respect to school bus safety rules, including activities of students with special needs
Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
