Mission Statement

The Defense Security Service (DSS) strengthens national security at home and abroad through our security oversight and education operations. DSS oversees the protection of U.S. and foreign classified information and technologies in the hands of cleared industry under the National Industrial Security Program by providing professional risk management services. As Functional Manager for the Department of Defense (DoD), DSS provides security education, training, certification, and professional development for the DoD and for other U.S. Government personnel, contractor employees, and representatives of foreign governments.

In accordance with DoD Instruction 1400.25, Volume 2005, veterans preference is not required to be applied when considering candidates with prior Federal competitive or excepted service who have completed a probationary or trial period and have not been separated for cause. Responsibilities

As an IT Specialist (INFOSEC) you will be responsible for the following duties: Managing and coordinating development of Information Assurance Systems information processing standards.

Working with Certification and Accreditation Validators to evaluate the impact of proposed standards and procedures on the accomplishment of agency goals and objectives.

Managing computer systems security for the Agency.

Implementing standards operating procedures, software, and controls to ensure appropriate levels of security.

Establishing implementation and oversight plans to ensure compliance with requirements.

Travel Required

Specialized experience required for this position is: To be creditable, specialized experience must encompass knowledge of the principles, concepts and methodologies of computer systems security requirements in support of the organization's certification work. Familiarity of current automated information systems security developments as they related to hardware, systems software, telecommunications and systems design and development techniques to provide advice and guidance on issues such as alternative security packages, acquisition and use. Providing technical guidance and assistance to individuals working on the Accreditation and Certification Program involving state-of-the-art computer systems, including telecommunications. Developing new methods, techniques and procedures.

The incumbent must sign a Statement of Understanding regarding the IA certification requirement and maintaining the appropriate certification is a condition of employment.
