Virginia Department of Transportation Culpeper District, is seeking a professional equipment repair technician for our Warrenton Equipment Shop
to perform a complete range of equipment diagnostics, preventative maintenance, and repairs on VDOT's diversified fleet of Light, Medium & Heavy Duty Trucks, Heavy Construction equipment, and various specialized support equipment. Using
supplied hand tools and/or specialized diagnostic equipment, technicians will perform accurate repairs and other tasks in a
equipment shop, field setting, and/or satellite locations by means of
mobile service truck as directed by management. Repairs include but not limited to; complex diagnostics/repairs on gasoline and diesel engines, transmissions, drive-line components, pneumatic components, electrical, fuel, hydraulic,
, and air brake systems in a timely and industry standard manner. Perform Safety Inspections as required under the VA State Police Inspection Program. Perform daily time entries, work order repair task notes/description, and conduct business in a professional manner and image. Keep assigned work area and/or mobile service truck clean and organized. Knowledge and ability to perform effective preventive maintenance (PM), diagnostic and corrective repair techniques and procedures relating to a variety of gasoline and/or diesel vehicles, construction and/or maintenance equipment. Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools, and computerized diagnostic testing equipment. Ability to perform heavy manual labor and to read, follow written and oral instructions.
Valid driver's license required. Must obtain Commercial Drivers' License within 6 months of hire and obtain a Virginia State Inspection license within 9 months of hire.
Advanced skill in the use of diagnostic testing equipment. Ability to operate various types of equipment. Related work experience and/or specialized training/education in equipment repair. Ability to coach and instruct others in diagnostic and repair techniques. Experience performing state inspections. Ability to use cutting and welding equipment. Participation in
certification programs preferred. Current
and Virginia State Inspection License preferred.
Requires ability to perform heavy manual labor to include standing, bending, and frequent lifting up to 50 lbs. Safety shoes are required in performance of job duties.

This position is designated as essential and, as such, all duties associated with the job are required during emergency situations which may include but are not limited to inclement weather, disaster response, and emergency operations. Performance of these duties may require work outside of normal business hours including nights, weekends and holidays.
