About Our Job
As an Underground Utility Investigator, duties would include:
Search and identify location of underground utilities through compiling information from public and private utility organizations to generate preliminary drawings to assist project engineers or private citizens in locating underground utilities.
Perform research and compiles information from public and private utility organizations to generate preliminary drawings to assist project engineers or private citizens in locating underground utilities.
Review blueprints and project document to ensure compliance with state legislation regarding safe excavations around underground utility lines.
Perform fieldwork in order to verify locations and connections and chart sanitary and storm sewer systems and other underground utilities for construction, maintenance or repair projects involving waste disposal and sewer systems, or storm and sanitary sewer facilities, and coordinates and discusses potential problems and possible solutions with project engineer.
Interpret and extract data from blueprints, a variety of maps, engineering orders, architectural drawings and building specifications.
Prepare detail drawings including isometric projections and sectional views.
Assist in training and checking the work of other employees on various projects.
About You
Our ideal candidate:
Will be responsible for the correct, safe and efficient locating of underground utilities including: fiber optics, electric power, traffic signal underground facilities, gas, water and sewer systems.
Will take time to thoroughly search for underground utilities in an area, properly marking the location, completing the necessary paperwork and photographing each locate.
Will be familiar with the Utility Notification Center of Colorado (UNCC) and their WEBTMS interface.
Will be working outdoors in all types of weather conditions and use a City provided iPad to document and close all tickets. We have a 48-hour turnaround time on all locates, which means we generally work the day after holidays and some weekends, as needed.

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED certificate desired.
One year experience interpreting blueprints, maps and construction drawings.
Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirement.
By position, possession of a valid driver's license at the time of application. Possession of a valid Colorado Class R driver's license prior to the end of probation.
About Everything Else
Classification Title: The official job classification title is Underground Utility Investigator (CN2081).
Hiring Range: $18.48 - $22.73/hour.
Assessments/Testing: This position does not require testing.
