The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation is the state\u00e2??s lead conservation agency. John Smith in 1608, Kiptopeke offers recreational access to the Chesapeake Bay. It's also a great place to explore unique migratory bird habitat along the Atlantic flyway. The park has two and three-bedroom cabins, six-bedroom lodges, RV and tent camping, a yurt (part cabin-part tent), and a bunkhouse. Guests also enjoy the park's boat ramp, lighted fishing pier, picnic areas, 5.1 miles of hiking and biking trails, playground, beach bathhouse and swimming beach. Seasonal interpretive and educational programs focus on natural history, birding and bay ecology. Duties: Assists Park Manager in overall management of park and has primary responsibility for several management areas. Organizes, monitors, and conducts employee training. Supervises daily park operational programs such as fee collections, work scheduling, correspondence, and provision of park services to the public. Assists as needed with the park's enterprise operations consisting of swimming beach, boat rentals, snack bar\/gift shop, cabins and campground. Provides visitor and property protection through enforcement of State laws and park regulations, tracks and analyzes park work program. Hires, supervises and trains employees who provide visitor services and maintain park facilities and grounds. Participates in planning and implementation of management programs for natural and cultural resources. Ensures safe environment for staff and visitors. In absence of Park manager, has the direct responsibility for all park operations. Minimum Qualifications Considerable knowledge of grounds and facility maintenance skills and techniques. Considerable knowledge of personnel management to include administration, scheduling, training, and supervision. Previous demonstrated work history performing budget planning\/oversight, and revenue collection\/reporting. Previous demonstrated work history related to providing public relations and knowledge of marketing practices. Previous demonstrated work experience coordinating work programs and hosting special events. Working knowledge of resource management techniques, procedures and guidelines. Preferred Qualifications Certification as a law enforcement officer and experienced in public safety. BS degree in Environmental Science, Park Management, Forestry, Wildlife Management, or related field. Experience providing supervision of the various elements of park and recreational operations and an aptitude for park operations, law enforcement, supervision of personnel, and park administration. Special Requirements Sworn Conservation Officer requirements: Must be a U.S. citizen; be at least 21 years old; High school diploma or equivalent required, have or be able to be certified as a law enforcement officer from the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services, which includes accepting responsibilities related to being equipped with and using firearms. Successful applicants: must not have a felony conviction(s) or have pled no contest to a felony or any offense that would be a felony if committed in Virginia; must not have a misdemeanor conviction(s) involving moral turpitude, including larceny, concealment, uttering, embezzlement or perjury; must not have conviction(s) for a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence; must not have positive results on pre-employment drug screening. The selected candidate must reside in on-premises, state-owned housing to provide security and operational support during non-working hours. In accordance with \u00c2\u00a710.1-109. B of the Code of Virginia, this position is required to reside in Department-controlled housing for the purposes of providing security and operational efficiencies to property of the Department. Fingerprint-based criminal history record check, references, work history. Must have a valid driver\u00e2??s license or ability to get one. DMV driving records will be verified prior to employment. Must be able to work in diverse conditions including exposure to the outdoors, weather in all seasons, dust, animals and insects. Must be able to perform heavy manual labor to include standing, bending, pulling, climbing and lifting of up to 50 pounds. Must obtain first aid and C.P.R. certifications within 12 months of employment. Position requires shift work, including weekends and holidays.
