The Ambulatory Care Nurse Manager is directly responsible to the Chief of Nursing Service for Ambulatory Care. The Ambulatory Care Nurse Manager is responsible and accountable for the overall functioning of Ambulatory Care Units as delegated by the Chief of Ambulatory Care. This includes but is not limited to resource utilization (human, supplies/equipment), patient flow, performance improvement activities and staff and program evaluations. He/she is responsible for all issues that effect nursing including standards of practice, credentialing, training, functional statements, position descriptions, timely proficiencies and performance appraisals, and ensures compliance with all policies, procedures and protocols. The Ambulatory Care Nurse Manager ensures appropriate orientation, education, competence assessment, and continuing professional development of nursing personal supervised. The Ambulatory Care Nurse Manager possesses the knowledge and skills to effectively apply all aspects of the nursing process within a collaborative, interdisciplinary practice setting, which will enable effective implementation of health promotion and prevention practices, management of acute and chronic illnesses, and attainment of optimal levels of functioning and/or support of the dying patient and significant others. The Ambulatory Care Nurse Manager keeps staff informed of unit and executive-level activities in a timely matter, and through monthly staff meetings. He/she will communicate and/or prepare information in a timely matter regarding emergencies regarding unusual occurrences, or issues that impact nursing practice or Ambulatory Care Units. The Ambulatory Care Nurse Manager is responsible for staffing and scheduling of nursing staff on a 24-hour basis, and ensures that assignments of staff reflect their appropriate competence and utilization. He/she ensures that nursing practice is consistent with external standards such as The Joint Commission, OIG, and internal standards such as VA Performance Measures. The Ambulatory Care Nurse Manager plays a key role in the ongoing systemic evaluation and improvement of the quality and effectiveness of nursing care and services as they affect patient outcomes. He/she will provide guidance and direction to the performance improvement process in Ambulatory Care. The Ambulatory Care Nurse Manager demonstrates and ensures staff working practices that include adherence to Infection Control standards and safe use and operation of equipment. In addition, the registered nurse is accountable and responsible for possessing the knowledge and skills to: Communicate and interact appropriately and courteously with all internal and external customers Maintain confidentiality of electronic, written, and/or verbal patient/employee information Initiate and/or lead and evaluate new or existing programs for quality nursing and unit(s) outcomes. The Ambulatory Care Nurse Manager will ensure applicable clinical reminders are satisfied by staff working within her service area. The Ambulatory Care Nurse Manager provides leadership in the application of the nursing process to client care, organizational processes, and/or system in order to improve outcomes at the program, service, or organizational level. Work Schedule: Monday- Friday 7:30- 4:00 Financial Disclosure Report: Not required.Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Preferred Experience: Management experience preferred. Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree. Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-6 Nurse Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.Physical Requirements: Heavy lifting, 45 pounds and over; Straight pulling (4 hours); Pulling hand over hand (4 hrs); Pushing (4 hours); Reaching above shoulder; Use of fingers; Both hands required; Walking (8 hour); Standing (8 hours); Repeated bending (4 hours); Both legs required *one leg or foot may be Compensated by prosthesis; Near vision correctable at 13\ to 16\ to Jaeger 1 to 4; Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; Ability to distinguish basic colors; Hearing (aid permitted); Hearing without aid; Emotional stability under stress; Ability to read with one eye and ability to read typewritten material, glasses permitted.
