You will serve as a FIREFIGHTER (BLS) in the FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES of US NAVAL BASE GUAM~.

A Cost-of-Living-Allowance (COLA) of 13.01% will be added to the stated salary. COLA is subject to change at any time.

This position has promotion potential to the GS-07 grade. If selected below the full performance level, you may be noncompetitively promoted to the next higher grade level after meeting all regulatory requirements, and upon the recommendation of management. Responsibilities

You will perform structural firefighting duties for a variety of facilities that may include research and/or large industrial complexes.

You will participate in controlling and extinguishing fires by operating hose, ladders, and hydrants.

You will operate a wide variety of firefighting equipment in an effective manner.

You will drive and operate firefighting vehicles, such as pumpers and aerial ladder trucks.

You will comply with health, safety, and environmental rules and procedures and performs work in a manner that enhances the safety of work environment.

You will maintain assigned firefighting equipment properly to ensure proper operation and functionality.

You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

This is an overseas position. You will be subject to and must be able to satisfy the overseas requirements of the 26Jul12 DODI 1400.25 V1230: http://www.esd.whs.mil/Portals/54/Documents/DD/issuances/140025/140025v1230.pdf

You will be required to use all safety equipment and wear protective clothing or gear, such as masks, boots, goggles, gloves, shields, and encapsulated suits weighing 50-60 pounds.

The employee is required to work a 72-hour week on a 24-hour on/24-hour off basis that includes weekends, and holidays. May be subject to recall.

Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.

This position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions and fall under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program.

May be required to participate on Hazardous Materials Teams (HAZMAT).

Position requires visual acuity and accurate color discrimination. Must be able to distinguish between colors and shades of colors.

A current valid United States driver?s license is required. You will be required to drive and operate firefighting vehicles, such as pumpers and aerial trucks.

This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to take part in readiness exercises; that I must be removed from military recall status; and that I may not join a reserve unit during my mobilization.

Must be able to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

You will be required to obtain and maintain current Firefighter certifications such as Fire Fighter II, State or National Registry Medical Technician-Basic Life Support (NREMT-B), Driver Operator Pumper, HAZMAT Technician.

Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

Qualifications

1) Successfully completed firefighter training that was obtained as part of a high school curriculum; OR

2) Successfully completed one year of related education or firefighter training.

You will be required to lift and move heavy objects, such as charged fire hoses, fire extinguishers, equipment, and incapacitated persons.

You will be required to climb ladders and work at various heights.
