The selectee for this position will serve as a Computer Scientist in the Readiness and Training Systems Department, Integrated Training Systems Division, Tactical Support Engineering Branch (R22) of Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren, VA.

The Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) Dam Neck Activity's (DNA) mission is to provide research, development, test and evaluation, analysis, systems engineering, integration and certification of complex naval warfare systems. As a premier naval scientific and engineering institution, Dam Neck Activity technology is critical to new design concepts for current ships and for systems integration and interoperability for the U.S. Navy

The Tactical Support Engineering Branch (R22) has an immediate need for a Computer Scientist providing system engineering expertise to various integrated, systems of systems and distributed projects in F21 including, but not limited to, Advanced Training Domain (ATD), Dual Band Radar (DBR), FMS training systems, Live Virtual Constructive training systems, and Fleet Synthetic Training.

THIS IS A DIRECT HIRE ANNOUNCEMENT. Sections 1122 (a)(1) of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2014 authorize the Secretary of Defense to recruit and appoint qualified candidates directly into certain scientific and engineering positions within the Department of Defense. Competitive rating and ranking of applicants do not apply to the Direct Hire process.

Responsibilities

You will provide system engineering expertise to various integrated, systems of systems and distributed projects.

You will provide expert engineering support of fielded legacy systems through development of new interface specifications and refinement of existing interface specifications.

You will provide expert engineering support in development of new systems through requirements definition and development of new interface specifications including recommendations in the form of executive briefings, white papers, and/or roadmaps.

You will support System Engineering tasking for Sensor Distribution Systems (SSDS) and/or Aegis combat systems, Naval and Joint training system, test, readiness, and assessment toolbased systems.

You will collaborate with military and civilian customers to determine technical requirements, plan for the development of applications based upon those military requirements, and then implement and maintain the applications.

You will ensure that contractors deliver critical capabilities to keep programs on schedule and meet customer needs.

You will be designing and/or developing systems architectures, platforms and products.

You will ensure development of acquisition and engineering processes and products.

You will ensure requirements definition, software and hardware design and integration, test, delivery, and sustainment of Combat Systems and elements .

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

1550-Computer Science Series: I have a degree in computer science or degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of my 30 semester hours were in a combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus.

In addition to the Basic Education Requirements for this position, Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the ND-03 (GS-09/11 equivalent) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: as a professional Scientist performing services for the development of acquisition and engineering processes and products for integrated training systems for tactical support.

I have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
