Summary

This position is located at Directorate, Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation, Community Recreation Division; Located with the Laundry Operations.

This position is a Flexible position. Flexible positions will normally be scheduled 0-40 hours per week dependent upon the needs of the organization. There is no guaranteed number of hours for flexible positions.

Schedule will include nights, weekends and holidays.

This position is a Flexible position and there are no benefit entitlements.

Responsibilities

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS:

Receives general supervision from supervisor who, furnishes verbal and written assignments, is available to give advice and assistance on new/unusual problems encountered, but relies on incumbent to independently determine nature and extent of needed repairs/services, and to plan own work procedures and sequence; and previews work in terms of timeliness and serviceability of completed repairs.

MAJOR DUTIES:

Repairs and troubleshoot large complicated industrial laundry equipment and systems including washers, dryers, ironers, boilers, pumps, water treatment system, etc. which have to be adjusted and maintained to critical and rigid tolerances. Observes and tests the operation of the systems in order to localize malfunctions in automatic controls, converters, piping, pumps and related components. Locates, troubleshoots, diagnose and repairs electrical wiring systems. Replaces electrical switches, circuit boards and controls, outlets, wires and conduit as necessary. Repairs broke plumbing lines, water lines, etc. Isolates lines, changes pipes, and replaces ties, cutting, shaping and threading pipes to make necessary fittings. Maintain concise records and documentation of all maintenance and repairs performed. Maintains a good inventory of parts needed for support of the laundry equipment. Maintains chemical treatment and documentation for boiler water system.

Performs other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

Good working knowledge of standard industry preventative maintenance procedures, documentation and record keeping. Performance of laundry mechanic duties requires knowledge of the principles of various methods of combustion, water chemistry ratios, and arrangements of laundry equipment. Performance of electrical tasks requires a comprehensive knowledge of electrical principles and elements and systems operations (high and low voltage) in order to locate troubleshoot and diagnose electrical problems.

RESPONSIBILITY:

Receives general supervision from supervisor who relies on incumbent to independently.

PHYSICAL EFFORTS:

Must lift and pull heavy equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. May work in tight/uncomfortable positions for extended periods; required to stoop, stretch and bend and to work while standing, sitting, kneeling or lying down.

Qualifications

1. Applicant must have completed high school or equivalent in a trade school.

2. Must have three years general job related experience and two years specialized experience in the repair and maintenance of industrial laundry equipment.

3. Must be highly skilled in verbal and written communication and have excellent self management skills.
