PSYCHIATRIST FOR COMMUNITY BASED OUTPATIENT CLINIC - VA MAINE HEALTHCARE SYSTEM, BANGOR, MAINE

You are invited to join the team of the VA Maine Healthcare System at the Bangor Community Based Outpatient Clinic proudly serving Maine's veterans in and around the Bangor region. The clinic was built in 1996 and expanded in 2005 and serves over 5,000 veterans. The mental health clinic is housed on the second floor where you will work with three mental health NPs/PAs and support staff. Other services provided at the clinic include primary care, lab, pharmacy, radiology, optometry, audiology, physical therapy, dental services, cardiology, and other telehealth services.
The Bangor’s parent facility is located in August and is a modern 67-bed facility with general medical, surgical, intermediate and mental health beds, as well as 40-bed Skilled-Longer Stay Unit, a 25-bed Dementia Unit, and a hospice unit.
The workweek is typically 32 hours per week of direct patient care and there are no evening or weekend hours. Our clinic offers outpatient services including medication management and individual counseling for mental health and substance abuse problems. We also offer several treatment groups including Substance Abuse Support Groups (2 groups), Dual Diagnosis Group (combat veterans with PTSD and substance abuse diagnoses), Women’s Group (MST), DBT Skills Training Group, and Non-combat PTSD Group.

Call is by phone approximately 4 weeks per year. On call psychiatrists primarily support in-house providers who cover the emergency room.
