This position is part of the Security Services, Government Publishing Office in Washington , District of Columbia .

Employee will work one of three Shifts 1, 2, or 3 and a Tour of Duty from is depended upon shift assigned. Shift 1 Tour of Duty 6:45 am - 3:15 pm; Shift 2 Tour of Duty 2:45 pm - 11:15 pm; and Shift 3 Tour of Duty 10:45 pm - 7:15 am Monday - Friday.

The incumbent of this position functions as an Emergency Equipment Dispatcher, primarily responsible for receiving and transmitting all incoming calls regarding police, fire, medical, hazardous materials, and their related emergencies.

Responsibilities

As a Automotive Equipment Dispatcher, your typical work assignments may include the following:

Receive and transmit all police, fire, medical, hazardous material, and other related emergencies. Dispatch all units, providing updated response information to all responders, document and submit required reports.

Update all emergency operation incident records and reports ensuring preliminary and updated information is provided to all business units/agencies.

Monitor the intrusion detection system, closed circuit televisions, and fire alarm systems.

Monitor status and availability of police units for response and maintain an accurate account of all job control numbers on open work orders providing updated response information to all responders.

Input and receive sensitive information on the Department of Justice National Crime Information Center (NCIC) system.

Prepare standard operating procedures for operational requirements preparing reports of activities and events occurring over the course of a shift.

Obtain essential and critical information from caller in emergency situations.

Exercises sound judgment in obtaining information from persons who appears to be overly excited and have a tendency to give incomplete statements regarding emergencies.

Note 2: Selectee will work one of three shifts (Monday - Friday).

Note 3: The agency retains the right to order emergency services dispatchers to work overtime when efforts to obtain emergency services dispatchers have failed.

Note 4: Selectee must successfully complete Emergency Medical Dispatcher Certification Course within 1 year of appointment.

Note 5: Selectee must successfully attain and maintain Department of Justice National Crime Information Center qualifications.

Note 6: Selectee is considered mission essential.

Note 7: Experience utilizing a computer aided dispatching system.

Note 8: Must be skilled in the use of a typing keyboard with speed and accuracy.

Note 9: Must be able to immediately initiate and implement GPO's Emergency Notification Systems: SendWordNow, VoIP, Fire Alarm PA, & NetPresenter during emergency/non emergency, and simulated drills and provide updates as required.

Note 10: Failure to successfully accomplish any of the above notes will be grounds for removal.

Only experience and education obtained by the closing date of this announcement will be considered.

Qualifications

To qualify for the Automotive Equipment Dispatcher, PG -2151-6, you must meet the following requirements:

To minimally qualify for the PG-2151-06 level, you must possess one year of specialized experience at the PG-05 or equivalent grade level or higher. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Utilizing dispatching procedures and equipment to dispatch police, fire, medical, etc. to related emergencies;

Processing information into databases related to incident support;

Determining the priority of response and relaying incident information to responding emergency personnel; and

Maintaining communication log and summary report.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement (01/24/2018) to be considered.

Education

Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used for this grade level.

Background Investigation:

To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully completed a background investigation for a Secret. This review could include financial issues such as delinquency in the payment of debts, child support and/or tax obligations, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs. Depending on the type of background investigation required, the security process may take between 6 weeks to 12 months.

The Agency may rescind the tentative offer, if the candidate is unable to obtain an interim clearance.
