The position will perform contract administration duties as part of the silviculture organization. These duties include contract administration, stand identification, work leader to 4-5 temporary seasonal employees, layout and FACTS database entry.

Responsibilities

The incumbent will perform the following duties:

Conducts examinations and surveys, and collects data on assigned timber compartments and stands. Performs an evaluation on the conditions found.

Performs plantation and natural regeneration survival examinations and stocking surveys; designs and layout pre-commercial thinning and reforestation units.

Conducts post-treatment inspections; administering timber stand improvement, reforestation, and marking contracts.

Help managing District silvicultural data using FACTS, FSVeg, and GIS databases.

Utilizes aerial photographs and on-the-ground observations and measurements to develop conclusions and recommendations for possible prescriptions or action.

Assists in the collection and analysis of data pertaining to soil, fisheries, wildlife, and water activities.

Participates in assigned phases of unit administration such as budgeting, human resource management, planning, etc.

Assisted in planning timber stand improvement projects that were without clear precedents or guides;

Gathered field data, prepared reports, diagrams, charts, and graphs for timber management programs or projects;

Reviewed applicability of standard contract clauses for reforestation, timber thinning, fertilizing, stand exams, cone collection, site preparation, and animal damage;

Performed timber stand improvement surveys to determine stand condition and the need for TSI treatments.

GS-07: One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-06.

OR

One full year (18 semester/27 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level coursework that is directly related to the work of the position (such as wildland fire science/management, natural resources management, forest economics, forest ecology, forest resource management, forest biometry, and agroforestry systems);

GS-07: Examples of specialized experience:

Assessed technical support studies of forestry data in order to prepare drafts and standard segments of reports for publication purposes;

Collected data, inspected multiple sites, and modified procedures in performing timber-related assignments and projects;

Performed a variety of reforestation assignments that required the application of a number of different, specific, established methods, procedures, and techniques;

Conducted technical surveys of recently planted tracts using standard sampling methods and procedures to determine survival rates for a variety of tree species and seedlings.

Work Experience: Your resume must clearly document the following for each block of work experience; the beginning day, month and year the work assignment started and ended; the hours worked per week; position title, and series and grade if applicable; and description of duties performed. This information must be provided for each permanent, temporary or seasonal appointment/work assignment or volunteer work and should be clearly documented as a separate block of time.
