This position is located in U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Office of Public Health Preparedness & Response (OPHPR), Division of Emergency Operations (DEO), Logistics Branch (LB), in Atlanta, GA.

This vacancy is being announced for current OPHPR/DEO employees with permanent career/career-conditional status only.

Responsibilities

As an Emergency Management Specialist you will:

Perform work in order to prevent, protect from, prepare for, respond to, recover from and/or mitigate natural or man-made emergencies.

Maintain 24/7 individual readiness to perform in an emergency response environment that may require on-call duty, and/or extended shift work (e.g. all-hazards public health watch support, incident emergency alert, notification and escalation and incident management support).

Assist in the development of public health preparedness, response, and recovery materials to support technical assistance and capacity development activities.

Support the development of effective plans which permit CDC and its programs to respond to emergencies in a coordinated and proactive manner.

Be under the direction of senior staff, issues, maintains, tracks and inventories deployable assets to provide CDC staff supporting emergency response activities with needed equipment, field gear and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR GS-09: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.

Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position, to include experience in arranging travel utilizing computer-based travel processing systems for personnel deploying in response to a public health incident.

OR

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE FOR GS-09: Requirement at the GS-09 level may be met by having a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related to the position

OR

Have a combination of specialized experience and graduate education that together meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR GS-11: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.

Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position, to include experience in arranging travel utilizing computer-based travel processing systems and providing travel assistance for personnel deploying in response to a public health incident.

OR

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE FOR GS-11: Requirements at the GS-11 level may be met by having a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or completed 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., or other field of study with course work directly related to the position.

OR

Have a combination of specialized experience and graduate education that together meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.

Documenting experience: In accordance with Office of Personnel Management policy, federal employees are assumed to have gained experience by performing duties and responsibilities appropriate for their official series and grade level as described in their position description. Experience that would not normally be part of the employee's position is creditable, however, when documented by satisfactory evidence, such as a signed memorandum from the employee's supervisor or an SF-50 or SF-52 documenting an official detail or other official assignment. The documentation must indicate whether the duties were performed full time or, if part time, the percentage of times the other duties were performed. It is expected that this documentation is included in the employee's official personnel record. In order to receive credit for experience in your resume that is not within the official series and grade level of your official position, you must provide a copy of the appropriate documentation of such experience as indicated above.
