Summary

This position is located in the Office of Corporate Security Strategy, Analysis and Special Operations, responsible for: (1) providing an overall assessment and analysis of the security posture of the entire DOE operation; (2) assessing potentially systemic issues affecting DOE safeguards and security programs and to help identify approaches for addressing them; and (3) providing Executive Protective Services for the Department and establishing, maintaining and oversight of Security Incident investigations.

A successful candidate in this position will provide personal protection for the Secretary of Energy and other senior DOE officials as directed by the Secretary; and coordinate and/or conduct protective intelligence investigations.

Functions of this position are critical to agency operations in dismissal or closure situations.

Responsibilities

As a Criminal Investigator, you will:

Perform executive protection operations for the Secretary of Energy, or others designated by the Secretary on short notice and include high-level liaison with domestic and foreign law enforcement officials, and coordination with the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), U.S. Secret Service and U.S. State Department.

Review assigned position and logistical details as provided in advance and maintain the assigned protection post during official or social functions attended by the protected official.

Will be delegated the authority to conduct and/or assist in potentially sensitive and/or complex criminal investigations of alleged or suspected violations pursuant to the Atomic Energy Act of 1954 and other applicable federal laws.

Coordinate and/or participate in the investigations of threats against cabinet level officials and/or assist other investigators in the interview of witnesses and victims.

Conduct and assist in site advance preparedness for the Secretary of Energy or others designated by the Secretary.

Conduct motorcade operations by employing limousine and follow car protective techniques which may be performed under exigent circumstances in the course of assigned duties.

Travel Required

50% or less - The travel requirements normally result being away from home 50% of their time with trips averaging at times two to three weeks over a monthly period. Routine travel is also required for training and other meetings.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT FOR THIS VACANCY:

MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS

: The duties of the position requires moderate to arduous physical exertion involving walking and standing, use of firearms, and exposure to inclement weather. Manual dexterity with comparatively free motion of finger, wrist, elbow, shoulder, hip, and knee joints is required. Arms, hands, legs, and feet must be sufficiently intact and functioning in order that applicants may perform the duties satisfactorily. Sufficiently good vision in each eye, with or without correction, is required to perform the duties satisfactorily. Near vision, corrective lenses permitted, must be sufficient to read printed material the size of typewritten characters. Hearing loss, as measured by an audiometer, must not exceed 35 decibels at 1000, 2000, and 3000 Hz levels. Since the duties of these positions are exacting and responsible, and involve activities under trying conditions, applicants must possess emotional and mental stability. Any physical condition that would cause the applicant to be a hazard to himself/herself, or others is disqualifying. Position is designated as an emergency essential employee.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

: experience in executive protection and criminal/protective intelligence investigative cases.

GS-12:

experience in executive protection and criminal/protective intelligence investigative involving developing facts and evidence, conducting interviews and interrogations; and making arrests and conducting searches and seizures.
