Physical Demands:

Most work is performed in an office or meeting room setting; occasional field duty in extreme temperatures, topography and remote living conditions.

Work Environment:

May be exposed to temperature extremes dust, smoke, noise, rugged topography, high-risk flight in fixed or rotor wing aircraft, extended outdoor living and high-stress emergency activities.

Travel and relocation expenses will not be paid

by the Department of the Interior. Any travel, transportation and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the responsibility of the selected employee.

- Responsible for the unit's Aviation Program to include oversight, budget planning, development, execution, and monitoring of aviation operations.

- Serve as liaison for interagency coordination and use of tactical and logistical aircraft.

- Develop plans, manuals, handbooks, and instructional materials.

- Conduct workshops.

- Responsible for the unit's Aviation Safety and Training program.

- Conduct training needs analysis and serves as a certified trainer.

- Ensure the unit's dispatch center(s) operates within current accident/incident response measures.

- Review the Aviation Safety Communications Database (SAFCOM) and provide recommendations for corrective actions.

- Initiate and participate in aircraft incident and accident investigations.

- Function as Contracting Officers Representative (COR) on Call When Needed (CWN) aircraft.

- Coordinate requests to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for airspace restrictions.

- Provide clearances into restricted airspace.

Travel Required

50% or less - Frequent travel will be required during peak fire activity.
