Responsibilities

The incumbent serves as the office coordinator for the Nurse Intervention procedures or as the nurse who performs the actual intervention. The first function includes the identification of compensation cases which conform with the criteria of the project; the selection, training and management of contract nurses who render services to the claimants participating in the prject; and the collection of medical data in keeping with parameters of the study. Provides technical guidance to claims examiners and other District Office staff in case management and related medical issues such as the use of particular pharmaceutical, diagnostic tests and treatment modalities for a variety of work reated conditions.

Basic Requirements

Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (external link)

, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (external link)

, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (external link)

, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link)

at the time the degree was obtained.

Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (external link)

is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.

Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination (external link)

. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Applicants must meet time-in-grade, time-after-competitive-appointment and qualifications requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of the vacancy to be eligible for consideration for selection. Reference the Required Documents section for additional requirements.

Qualifications

In addition to the basic requirements, applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-11, in the Federal Service.

Experience is described as experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.

Some examples of qualifying experience include nursing experience in general and experience that demonstrates the ability to analyze data and/or reports as well as managing several nurses at one time.
