VA TEXAS VALLEY COASTAL BEND HEALTH CARE SYSTEM

The VATVCBHCS is comprised of the Corpus Christi Outpatient Clinic (CCOPC), Corpus Christi Specialty Clinic (CCSC), Harlingen Outpatient Clinic (HOPC), Health Care Center at Harlingen (HCC), Laredo Outpatient Clinic (LOPC), and McAllen Outpatient Clinic (MCOPC). The VATVCBHCS is an ambulatory health care system providing health care in medicine, surgery, psychiatry, and rehabilitation medicine. The VATVCBHCS also operates a 100-patient Home Based Primary Care program and a 200-patient Care Coordination Home Tele-Health Program. Through the utilization of inpatient/emergency department contracts, approximately 2600 inpatient admission and 5800 ER visits are managed by VATVCBHCS. Affiliated with the University of Texas Regional Academic Health Campus, the system has an active ambulatory care program and serves as a teaching and training site for medical residents. The VATVCBHCS is responsible for an enrollee population of over 30,000 veterans and 350,000 outpatient visits annually.

Responsibilities

The incumbent functions as the Regional Telemental Health HUB Program Support Assistant to the VA Texas Valley Coastal Bend Health Care System (VATVCBHCS) Mental Health Service Line and is tasked with performing key duties in areas of coordination, administration, technical support and data analysis in support of the departments Telemental Health HUB Services.

Serves as a point of contact for patients, medical center staff, VISN staff and community agencies, and various others who are involved in the delivery of telehealth care.

Attains and maintains computer skills on a variety of software programs, i.e., word processing, file management, VISTA, CPRS program, EXCEL spreadsheets, etc. and communication tools such as MS Outlook.

Responsible for helping to ensure that all appropriate staff members are aware of proper DSS codes for telemental health clinics and appropriate naming conventions are utilized.

Acts as a consultant to program team members with regard to administrative matters.

Responsible with justifying and request replacements for outdated equipment by identifying the outdated equipment, and gathering relevant information.

Maintains a calendar of meetings, conference calls, and scheduled leave for all Telemental HUB Staff.

Responsible for collecting, compiling and/or tracking statistical information in support of program operations.

Establish protocols for incoming data, organize and maintain patient data. Track and trends issues related to program effectiveness and role implementation.

Uses software applications to draw information from a wide variety of sources in order to prepare reports, assist in the planning, review, and reporting of data/statistical results of program studies.

Responsible for providing data/reports related to the administrative, clinical, and technical aspects of TMH HUB Program.

Work schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (Alternate schedules may be necessary to meet the needs of the organization.)

Physical Requirements: The work is basically sedentary, but a great deal of walking to all parts of the Medical Center is required since the incumbent will be working with a variety of clinical and administrative services. Light Lifting (under 15 lbs); Light Carrying (under 15 lbs); Use of fingers; Walking (up to 0.5 hours); Standing (up to 0.5 hours); Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; Near vision correctable; Far vision correctable; Hearing (aid permitted);

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 03/05/2018.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:

Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-4) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Managing and tracking data/pulling reports; Using Microsoft applications; i.e., Excel/graphs; Uses medical terminology; Communicating in a professional manner; Independently carrying out the recurring work of an office, Working in a patient care environment. OR,

Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you mut have four years of education above high school. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. OR,

Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.
